Newbie invites the advice and opinions on the following ebay sellers and other purchasing sources

Hi to all. I'm new to collecting and to this site. I would like to get in-person autographs but it isn't possible for my lifestyle so I've turned to ebay. I have tried to find info on the following sellers in the discussion posts but most haven't been mentioned.  Also besides "the friendlystranger" do any of you recommend other sellers has legit? Where else on the web do you shop that is highly recommended besides Celebrity Authentics? Can people really write to celebrities and get authetic signatures sent to them? I would really appreciate all opinions and useful advise from the experts on here. Thanks.

The ebay sellers I've been interested in our:

lblinpersonauthography

terryt2

authographseller69

pjcsthings

philcobb

jrt21

pjscollectiblesplus

music sign

chunley1234

gmauthenticautos (they have been mentioned here before)

Skyline Signatures (they are a member on here)

Inked_Authographs (they are new and have a website)

I look forward to reading all of  your responses and advise. Thanks so much!

If I had to pick one to shop with, I'd select Skyline.  Honestly, it's the one of three I recognize of and seems to have an excellent reputation as an in-person collector.  I think that GMA Authentic Autos is good, but I've never made a purchase and don't know for sure.

Off ebay, hollywood-autographs.com is always a great place to take a look at.  100% in-person stuff, all obtained by Jason.

If you like to get items straight from the collector, here are some in-person ebay sellers I like:

jodeci78   (Jason just recently gave them a ringing endorsement, and there are often able to give exact proof of the celebrity signing that particular signature for sale)

newgraphs

aplusgraphs

in-person-autographs

Anything in particular you're looking for?  We might be able to point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the information. I will check into the ones you mentioned.

Hello,

I hope you have good luck in your collecting and i will try and give you some tips that have really helped me when i first started. On the question of if you can get a celebs sig through the mail, the answer is actually yes. You have to watch out as their are many celebs who use secretaries, preprints, and autopens, but typically you can find out who those people are by doing some searching online. If your considering going through the mail (TTM), i would recommend a site like startiger.com. It provides a database full of addresses for most all celebs, and its updated constantly so that you can tell who is signing good and who isnt, as well as who is sending preprints, etc. But celebs will sign TTM, but the bigger celeb, the more difficult it can be.

If your going for hollywood autographs TTM, i would suggest Production Weekly. It is expensive, but it gives you a weekly list of all the movies, series, etc. being filmed. This list also includes addresses for the movie shoots, studios, production offices etc. This is really the best way to get to the big celebs. It typically takes alot of trying with the bigger celebs but you can really get some good ones. In my time, by sending to production offices i obtained legit signatures from: Demi Moore, Robert DeNiro, Keanu Reeves, and Angelina JL just to name a few. Their is also the possibility of sending to stars on broadway which is very effective. But i really dont go for hollywood anymore as i am more interested in music.

Music presents its own set of challenges, but i think its actually more productive than going for hollywood. I have received some huge names TTM from musicians and it just takes patience and persistence. With the bigger musicians, if your sending TTM, you typically are going to have to send to the venue at where they are playing. So if they were playing at the Verizon Wireless center in cleveland ohio, you would send your letter to the address of the verizon wireless center, with a note on the front asking them to please give to the band you are after. Many of these venues forward the mail and are pretty good about it. So i hope that helps, but i can always answer anything else you are curious about as far as TTM signatures.

As far as sites, here are some sites that are top knotch.

Premier Collectibles--------They sell signed books

FYE---------When you are at their homepage, if you click on the tab specials, you will see a list of autographed CD booklets that they have. Today they put up signed copies of Rihanna's upcoming CD. Unfortunately FYE doesnt update when they sell out of an item, so if you dont buy within the first day or so, you may not get the booklet. And i imagine the Rihanna booklets have long since sold out.

Newberry Comics--------One of my favorites. They offer singed CD booklets from all kinds of artists. These are part of promotions and typically run neck and neck with FYE. Newberrry however is better in the since that they have many more names, and they update their system so when a booklet runs out, they say so. But they have a huge amount of signed booklets for sale at great prices. And this is a site you want to check in on daily, along with FYE. As the really big names sell out quick, such as Rihanna.

AutographSale.net------Run by a member of this site, Grieg McArthur. I have bought several items from him and they are really awesome. He is very knowledgeable and has some great items.

SignedSealedDelivered-----------Run by a member of this site, Roger Epperson. Roger is considered the best music authenticator in the world, and you can bet that anything for sale their is legit. He also is JSA's music authenticator.

Goldenstate Autographs--------Run by a very good dealer, Caleb. His items are top knotch and at great prices. A mix of music and hollywood.

AutographPros........Specializing in music, and run by a member of this site, the items are top knotch. Most are fully certed by PSA and some have video proof.

Autographworld----A great weekly auction site. They have mainly hollywood, but some music. The prices are normally great and the authenticity is good. But as with most, mistakes do occur their.

Dealers on ebay:

JG Autographs-------Hollywood and Music. They sell great stuff and have weekly sells where you can get unbelievable deals. They are top knotch and one of the best on ebay.

BP Autographs (bob priol)----Sells mainly music, and his little inventory, but the items are legit.

I hope this helps to start out. Im sure others can add some good sites for you. Their may be threads started on here already concerning which dealers to trust, so you may want to search for them. I know their is one on ebay dealers i have seen before, and im pretty sure their is one for online dealers too. Good luck though, and if i can help you anymore just let me know.

Carl

Great list Carl, and I think most on this site would agree with those names.

A few others you might be interested in:

Creation Entertainment:  Sells autographs from their conventions (Star Trek, Buffy, etc).

www.hollywoodshow.com:  You can buy autographs from their past shows and pre-order autographs from their upcoming shows.  Prices are nice and low.

Schwartz Sports:  You can get some steals on their ebay site.  Heavy in Chicago-based sports, but have also worked with the likes of Reggie Jackson, Greg Jennings, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, etc.

"Autographed Concert Posters" on ebay (http://myworld.ebay.com/autographedrockstarmerch/&_trksid=p3984...):  They give very little info about themselves on their ebay page, but this is the ebay store for The Rave/Eagles ballroom, a small Milwaukee venue that has been around for a long time.  They have most of their acts sign posters and/or canvas prints.  They have some absolute gems up for sale every once in a while - really unique, beautifully signed items on occasion.

Rich, thanks for adding more suggestions as well. I am eager to see what else others might suggest.

Carl, thank you for your start up tips and suggestions. I really appreciate it as well.

Thanks for all this great info, guys. I would love to see posts like this collected into some sort of FAQ that would be easy to find on the site. I know I would refer to it often.

Personally I avoid eBay like the plague.  I had a bad experience with an autograph purchase many years ago and did not purchase an autograph on eBay for over ten years.  It wasn’t until recently that I decided to stray from my comfort zone and give Skyline Signatures a try.  I have purchased two items from them and I am very happy with them.  Eric is very good to deal with as well.  I agree with Rich on this one.  Until I have a good reason not to I will continue to purchase an occasional in-person autograph from Skyline Signatures.

Thanks Mike for your input too!

Skyline and Inked autographs are legit dealers.
