I am trying to help my sister value and sell an original Orville Wright signed 8x10 picture.  It is excellent condition and the autograph is clearly in ink.

What might this be worth and what is our best way to sell it?

Thanks,

Joe

Not sure what its worth but if you get PSA to authenticate it it could bring much more value to it with out a doubt

Joe,

I think it would sell at auction in the $4,000-$5,000 range, including buyer's commission, which would net your sister roughly $3,000 or more. That's assuming it's authentic, which I have no reason to doubt, but I'm not an expert.

If it's inscribed to someone historically significant it could bring more.

If she sold it herself, say, on eBay, she has a good chance of coming out $500 or more ahead of traditional consignment since fees are lower, even after paying authentication fees to PSA/DNA or JSA. Things often bring less on eBay than at a traditional respected auction house.

Or she could sell it outright to a dealer for something less and get paid immediately.

I just realized it's an 8x10. The estimate I gave you was for the smaller photo. I'll ask a friend to pipe in.

Thanks for the feedback.  I think we may engage PSA to authenticate it.  My sister (and I) are novices regarding this type of product.  I am just trying to help her get a fair price for it so all of this help is wonderful.

I believe this is genuine.

Likewise John but I think (being novices) we should take CEE GEE's advise and get it officially authenticated that is of course unless we come across a well informed buyer who would make a decent offer beforehand.

I want  make sure that both a buyer and my sister get a fair shake.

No reason to get it authenticated if you're going to consign it to a trusted auction house. But definitely makes a difference if you want to sell it yourself.
Thanks John. The ones I found were smaller and looked like older prints.
