Perhaps taking some inspiration from Elton, Paul has signed these very costly ($15k-$85k) limited edition prints of his photographs with an abbreviated signature.

Some examples from the exhibition:

For contrast, my 2023 Eyes of the Storm example, which only had the surname abbreviated:

Saw this the other night...

I reached out to the gallery.

They are in editions of between 6 and 10 with 2 AP and I only see one for $15,000. Most are $35-$50k and the priciest are $85k.

The silver pen on the dark prints is very hard to see, but some are signed in the white margins and are much more pronounced, but still only a P and Mc squiggle.

Who among us can swing these?

A portion of the sale proceeds will be donated to support ongoing recovery and rebuilding efforts in Southern California following the devastating wildfires earlier this year.”

There is absolutely no way I would want the fully abbreviated Paul signature. I guess the low edition numbers of the photographs makes them desirable but the signature is garbage - looks more like "RM a" or "R McCann"

There’s some pretty good providence out there for anyone who does get one of these ‘shorthand’ signed prints

Thanks for the link. Classy video, as befitting a high-price gallery.

As a photography collector, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of many of the images and the printing methods used. At that sort of price range you'd obviously expect the latter.

Maybe they could turn out to be a good investment but more than $15,00o - $20,000 seems a lot to pay.

In some cases Paul does seem to write something that looks more like "Paul". Odd that he signed over dark areas in some cases. He also he seems to have signed some mounts (mats). Photos with signed mounts never seem as desirable to me as signed prints. Although highly unlikely, the mount and the print could go there separate ways at some point, leaving the owner with an unsigned print. I presume the backs of the prints will be stamped in some way with all the relevant details, including edition number but I doubt Paul was asked to sign the backs too..

Yes, it's a lot of money. Well we can at least see some things that he definitely did sign and it does endorse the new signature style.  Just noticed I wrote providence instead of provenance on my first post lol.
