Hi, one member in this forum just got something to my attention: a person on ebay is selling RP`s of an autograph I own. I bought this autograph by Bruce Springsteen on RRAuction in June this year. The picture he`s got on Ebay is clearly copied from RRAuction.  Can this be legal? Is it any way to stop this? I have already reported it to Ebay, and contacted the seller.

The item description says: "Please note this is a reproduction photo and features a pre-printed autograph."

The OP doesn't own the copyrights to the photo or the autograph just because he won it in an auction. The original photographer owns the rights to the photo, and Bruce owns the rights to the signature.

As long as the seller discloses that it's a reprint, and not an original, I don't see a problem. No real collector will buy it.

Well, I don`t know the laws about this in the US. But the common sense should be that its only the owner of the autograph that should be allowed to do this? I do not sell reprints of my autographs, but it is disturbing that another person may gain on this item. It`s mine, and I bought it on RRAuction.

I'm guessing the reprint quality is pretty mediocre if he swiped the image from the internet.

Hehe, yes, would guess so. So then he is lying even more as he states:

"THIS PRINT HAS BEEN PROFESSIONALLY LAB PRINTED TO THE HIGHEST STANDARDS"

lol

Not allowed

You're not allowed to use the following if you're not authorized to do so by the owner, its agent, or the law:

  • Photos and text from other eBay users

  • Photos and text copied from websites

  • Scans from catalogs or advertisements

Post the catalog item number from RR Auctions & image.

Ok, thank you for bringing that up. I filed a complaint to Ebay about this, also saying that the image the seller use is clearly taken from RRAuction. (The filesize, filename is similar)  So he has violated some rules anyway: he has to have copied the picture from RRAuction, or from this forum.

Heres the item at RRAuction: (Cant see the image without being member, after its sold)

He's selling 4 reprints. This makes me uncomfortable, as I have posted some of my sigs on this site, and I would be furious to see them reprinted and posted on eBay. We all have posted our pieces online, and to think he just scooped it up and ran with it? Disgusting. Though I would absolutely make sure first, that he didn't come across the reprints any other way. By that I mean, he could claim he purchased them from somebody else or a company. I have half a mind to write him too. But I guess its best to stay out of it. Best of luck with this, Trond. Please keep us updated. I would very much like to hear what the seller has to say about it.

Thank you for your support Mercury Man! Yes, I think its disgusting too, as we are all posting our sigs here, for other collectors to see, and compare each others. Not for some people on Ebay to profit on it! I am quite sure its taken from here or RRAuction, because he listed it on Ebay beginning of july, same time as I won it.

Yes, I will keep you up to date with whats happening, not got any replies from seller or Ebay yet, but its Sunday, so hope more tomorrow.

There he ended his listing. Guess he got my objections, or Ebay did.

That's great.
