"Does anyone here remember, Vera Lynn?

Remember how she said that we would meet again?

Some sunny day.....

Many of us growing up in the 70s and 80s listened to Pink Floyd and like many of my friends, "The Wall" was one  our favorite albums of all times. I still know every word to every song. Vera Lynn was a song that was short in length but powerful vocals and orchestra sound that led into my favorite song on the album. It always made me stop what I was doing and listen to those snare drums and the rhythmic marching of feet.

I never really thought about if there was an actual person named Vera Lynn or any meaning behind that song other than I just flat out loved it. Now, my parents generation might not have thought too much of Pink Floyd's music but many of them could have told me who Vera Lynn was if I would have bothered to ask. It wasn't until I got my grandpa's signatures from WWII many years later and began doing the research that I learned that there was in fact, a real Vera Lynn. I know because my grandpa got her signature there at the Hollywood canteen. It took me awhile to realize that my grandfather actually had established a direct connection to Pink Floyd before Pink Floyd ever played a note together. She was married to a guy with the last name of Lewis at the time and had married him right before world war II so she actually signed for my grandpa using her married name, Vera Lewis. She is one of the last of that generation, living well into her 100's and setting records for an album that she put out I believe in her 80s or 90s. All in all an incredible lady.

And although I don't have any Pink Floyd band members signatures to brag about, I do have something that I wouldn't trade for the world. Because it belonged to my grandpa.

Hi, nice story but does that look like Lynn's vintage signature? Some great names there!

Actress Vera Lewis?

Vera Lynn had a specific construction to "ra" in "Vera" - sorry but I don't see this as her hand. :(

I had written that for my office and my wife posted it thinking that she would surprise me.I'm pretty relaxed on the computer and left the browser open.Well surprise surprise that's not the right signature. You guys are like MacGyver and Matlock rolled into one. Good catch. I'll either post the correct signature or pull the story because I didn't intend it to go up in the first place it was just for my office. She has good intentions and knew that I wouldn't put it up for others to see so I'm not mad at her, crazy woman.
