Pink Floyd Animals Print, Storm Thorgerson Signed - What's it Worth?

I purchased this several years ago and I'm unsure of it's actual value. It's the 1st of  295 prints of Animals signed by Storm. I'm sure those of you in the forum are aware of this print. I see it for sale on stpaulsgallery.com for 8,900 GBP (over $11,000 USD) and there is currently a private listing on eBay for the same print (numbered and signed) for 2,875 GBP (over $3,500 USD). My guess is that these are really inflated numbers. For fans of PF/Thorgerson/Animals what is it worth to you?

Yes, those numbers are insane. As someone that LOVES collecting music related autographs, and has been a columnist for this magazine and is well-versed on values -- there are a few things going for this, and a few that aren't. The things going for it are the fact that he's a name, and has done some brilliant work that fans of Floyd love. The negative is -- the value comes when band members sign stuff. And we all know artists and photographs of famous album covers, often sign "limited edition prints" so it doesn't have the appeal that those artists think they have.

I would say, in the U.S., you'd be able to get $500 tops for it. Now, to put that in perspective -- Ringo Starr (a friggin' Beatle), has sold many autographed items the last few years for $500. And he has a reputation for not signing in person (and has for decades), so if a Ringo signature is $500....it makes you realize that the actual Animals album, signed by just Nick or Dave, would be worth more to Floyd fans.

I agree -- $500 tops for this if that is the kind of thing you collect.
