PSA bad authenticity judgement experience- Zeppelin

First of all, I just want to say I will not officially complain about this to them as I no longer have my quick opinion as my e-mail address changed, I lost it, and reasonably believed I had no reason to keep it, why would I keep a "this is not authentic" email? I just want to share this experience so you know how inadequate they unfortunately can be. SO anyway...

 

As some of you may or may not know, I'm a HUGE Zeppelin fan and it's always been my dream to own a Page/Plant piece. Way back in the day I was on the search for an item, and came across this one on ebay from Sig21(at the time it did NOT have a PSA cert):

I reasonably believed due to a member here saying they've seen this seller obtaining signatures, that it was authentic. Also, I have studied Zeppelin signatures a bit and while I saw minor things in the Page, I reasonably had a good idea it was authentic. But I wanted an expert opinion, so I did a "quick opinion" with PSA. They wrote an e-mail about a day later saying that the piece was not authentic. Seeing as I doubted the Page, I thought maybe I was correct and shrugged it off.

 

Now, I do my routinely "Zeppelin autograph" search through ebay, and find this item cert'd when they said not authentic, and for double the price. I know a quick opinion is not the same as sending it in as one is significantly cheaper, but this shouldn't have been a slip up, something tells me PSA weren't as attentative to the quick opinion. The seller provided multiple angles of the signatures and Ebay has that nice zoom feature to see the details. I'm not mad or upset, just a little annoyed, as they potentially cost me quite a bit of money (including the $20 or whatever it was I paid for the opinion). Not to make this a PSA bashing thread, I just wanted to share this experience to let people see that quick opinions apparently aren't taken very seriously.

I see what you probably mean about the page, the second "antenna" is a bit shakey. That is messed up what they did though, your right they probably don't waste too much time judging the "quick pics". Good luck in your search, something will come along.

I believe so. I really should've went to Roger with this piece but in my mind I was fairly sure it was authentic and wanted a PSA opinion. Went it came back not authentic, I was a little surprised as the seller was known to be somewhat reputable. Didn't want to shell out $1k for an item PSA said isn't real with a seller I never did business with before. PSA just doesn't spend time for their quick opinions, apparently. They're a waste of money and obviously, useless.

I used the same service once and it came back as "Likely Genuine" Paid $2,950.00 and when I took it to get the sticker put on I was told it was no good (even though I knew it was good).

I've said since then that the PSA/DNA quick opinion is a waste of money. Who knows exactly is looking at the items when they go into the quick opinion? It can be anyone.

Could also be that the quick opinion only looks at the actual formation of the signature and to an extent the pressure. There are several more variables to authenticating a signature right?

I have no idea what the point of "quick opinion" really is.  Let's pay someone to not really bother looking at something?  

PSA seems like just such an awful company these days.  Uneven standards, questionable competency and a willingness to authenticate anything, no matter how bad it looks, based solely on their perceived reputation of the source (or the size of the wad of cash they're handing them).  That sticker means zero to me at this point, given what a sloppy mess they are.  Same goes for JSA.

This piece is not authentic, I don't care what PSA says. I'm sorry you've had such a hard time finding an authentic Zeppelin piece. I'm a huge Zeppelin fan myself, and I've had the pleasure of meeting both Page & Plant several timesaver and obtaining signatures from each. In fact, my avatar photo on this site is from a recent meeting my wife & I had with Robert. Anyway, I have really cool piece signed by both that I would be willing to sell.
