Authenticity is Everything
PSA/DNA or JSA to Authenticate a World Series Ball with 26 signatures
For Christmas, a friend of mine gave me an official World Series baseball from the 1992 Toronto Blue Jays. It contains 26 signatures including HOF - Roberto Alomar, manager Cito Gaston, and Joe Carter. Ball is in great condition, in a case, with the signatures written in ball point pen ink.
I am 100% sure of it's legitimacy and authenticity. There will be zero chances or rejection in terms of the signatures on the ball as my friend was given the ball via someone who worked for the Jays at that time. That is not the question whatsoever.
I wish though, to have it authenticated just so that it is officially official. I wanna make this my own prized piece. With whom should I go with. PSA/DNA or JSA or someone else?
I have never used these type of services before.

Happy New Year! I think that either PSA or JSA would be fine, but if you are confident it's good (and you'd know) and don't plan to sell it in the foreseeable future, I wouldn't have it authenticated.

Steve, off the top of your head, is there a JSA or PSA option where you can avoid having their sticker put on the item?

I'm pretty sure I've read before you can request to not have the sticker and simply get a LOA

You can request not to have a sticker, but I have heard that they sometimes forget not to.

I think I've heard some horror stories on the placement of the sticker too.

Mark I wouldn't even waste my money getting it authenticated if you know in your heart it is real. The only time I would pay to get it authenticated, is if you ever plan on re-selling it.
BUT if you just absolutely want it done, I would go with PSA/DNA.

Thank you for the responses gentlemen. As you know I'm a huge U2 fan and I have lots of autographed items (that I got myself). No need for authenticity. I know it's real, I got it myself.
For some strange reason, the monkey on my shoulder wants to the ball authenticated cause it would make the signatures....um.... better. Like more than more official. So weird. Like a letter of authenticity just makes the item "nicer".
Anyway, this is an incredible site. I was brought to Autograph Magazine Live because of my U2 expertise.....and now I am inquiring about something sport related.
So do you contact PSA/DNA ship the item, pay the fee, and they ship it back? How the heck do I ship a baseball so it isn't damaged......all the way from Toronto....

if you are 100% sure of its authenticity, and don't plan on selling, why waste your money? Its not like having a PSA or JSA letter guarantees anything. its merely an opinion, which in your case, does not appear to be necessary. they make mistakes, so having their LOA really is not a "monkey off the back" solution.

Hey, quick question on an idea I brought up yesterday - would Richard Simon be a good person to authenticate a baseball like this? I know his career has been dedicated to vintage sports, so I wasn't sure if a slightly more modern item such of this would be of his expertise.
