12% shareholder of Collectors Universe and President? Anybody have a higher percentage of shares?

Pretty close to ownership. Makes the decisions and runs the show. Dealing on the side with items they grade. I'd hate to be the guy who grades one if his half dollars a 5 when this guy thinks it should be a 6.5.

It is easy to see where there could be incentives for owning. I think the reason most in this business as owners of grading or authenticating is because of the relationship to the hobby. Just as most dealers started out as collectors.

Could you imagine somebody trying to start a grading or authenticating business from the ground up with no experience as a collector or dealer first? It would be very difficult. There is no franchise training one could take like with opening a fast food joint, dry cleaners or auto painting franchise.

No question that somebody in the industry came up with a great idea and a decent business model. Changed the hobbies forever. It also allowed others to follow who did not have the best intentions.

William,

No one involved with PCGS or Collectors Universe, including David Hall, gets preferential grading of their coins.

Graders who are employees can't submit coins to PCGS (that's most employees). Non-employee graders can't be involved in the grading of their coins.

Every coin at PCGS is examined by at least two experts...often four or more. And every person who examines a coin is listed in that coins grading history.

Unless the coin is well-known or part of a well-known collection, graders rarely know who submitted the coins for grading or owns them.

There are about 15 vintage coin graders alone, and David Hall isn't one of them. And graders are highly paid for their expertise...you don't have to pay highly for yes men.

Steve,

Why is it that PCGS has 2 to 4 examiners for every coin and those ppl are listed on the grading history and this same practice is not followed on baseballs.... I wish the authenticity of all balls were looked at and checked by at least two ppl and those ppl were identified on the COA or LOA's.

I just got back on today and looks like I missed all the fun. The last couple of days it seems like William has just been trying to get thrown off for some reason??

I don't know how many authenticators on average look at an autograph at PSA/DNA. BTW, the names of the PCGS graders aren't listed publicly. They're maintained in the grader history, which is in-house, for reference.

I don't know if William was trying to get kicked-off or what. If that was his goal all along, I wish he would have just asked.
