REAL Elvis autographs

There has been a lot of confusion lately about Elvis Presley autographs due to a discussion that was recently posted. Elvis is one of the hardest autographs to authenticate as he had so many styles of signatures. After 20+ years of studying his autograph even I can get fooled every once and awhile. What messes up the forger is greed. The autograph gets too consistant for Elvis and they get caught. Recently a VERY good forger popped up and fooled me and others. The good thing is before the forgeries could be sold we figured out the forgeries and put a stop to this person. As you will see in this post "Elvis was consistantly inconsistant in the way he signed and wrote". There are though things he always did that show through though. All I am going to do here is post authentic signatures. I won't be explaining them in any way, that will be for you to do to educate yourselves. I will answer some questions though if needed. Enjoy!

I think I possibly understand part of this conversation. Lewis Roberts is the Andreas Jenson fellow who felt the 72' Madison Square Garden press conference photo poster was a Canadian forgery? I think that's where this has been going. It's not very clear.

I don't think the stuff posted by Lewis is authentic, nor the other John Wayne autograph being offered. He's sold Elvis items previously which I have disagreed on the authenticity of. I have no idea whether it's malicious or not. Probably not given how much misinformation and uncertainty there is surrounding Elvis.

I felt Grant before he was removed touched on an interesting point about the larger narrative surrounding Elvis. Part of that has been tarnished by the caricature of his later years and the unrelenting saturation perpetrated by EPE. He inspired musicians from Jimi Hendrix to John Lennon. Unless he's an organic creation over there, it looks like Van derhoven has joined up. I remember him saying that he wouldn't on one of these threads. I'm not sure how this whole thing exploded. I'm glad I had the presence of mind to save the Hendrix study. Steve gave plenty of signs. About ten warnings.

I'd agree more with Greg about third party authentication but the autograph isn't burned by the company if it's found not to be authentic. It's sent back to the owner to do what they will with it. I don't see the great crime in denying authentication or even being wrong about it. I'd rather those things be failed than passed. The secretarials and the autopens and horrible forgeries that get passed are what bothers me most.

This absolutely horrid Gregory Peck forgery with GA's rubber stamp from silverscreensignatures on eBay is the thing to fight against.

I'm sure I am not the only one that feels this way, but I wouldn't buy anything with GA stickers on them. Even if I determined that the item is real, I feel having their sticker on it actually devalues the item, because of all the bad sigs they pass. At some point they need to be banned from ebay. that will go a long way in cleaning up the mess and confusion.

I'd be very suspicious of a "Good lucs John Wayer" from John Wayne. Seeing that only took seconds. I'm not a collector and John Wayne isn't my greatest area of familiarity but it doesn't match up with known exemplars in my opinion.

I think maybe this thread can get back on topic. Posting and detailing rare, real Elvis autographs. These two have sold on eBay in recent weeks. The first one is encapsulated by PSA and the next one came with a letter from JSA:

I call this one the Elvis sticker. It was on for eBay for ages. Proof that autographs are worth whatever someone will pay for them. It ended up selling for $1,300. I think this piece, encapsulated as it is, is probably worth $600-$900.

This was a nice little 4x5 postcard signed by Elvis. It's no 8x10 but early signed pictures like this are always nice. Good contrast between the pen color and the picture. The addition of the address, Box 417 Madison Tenn. with the old abbreviation for Tennessee is neat.

I love the postcard. Wish there was a large pic. Did it sell? What's the price range? Cuts aren't my speed. They don't do anything for me.

I agree to a certain extent on cuts. The rarity and price of the autograph matters to me too when I consider a signature cut. Humphrey Bogart, Elvis Presley, and Frank Sinatra are people I might consider cuts from if the price is right. I don't think $1,300 was... right. It had like 20 offers on it so I suppose good for them, waiting for that one great offer.
