Hi all,

I'm a newbie to all this.

Can anyone make a recommendation for a authenticating company to use?

I've of heard of PSA and JSA, but I also have read so many bad things about them.

Has anybody heard of or have an opinion of Richard Simon?

Thanks for your help,

You'll get mixed reviews on both companies (JSA and PSA).  They seem to be better with sports than other types of authentications, I believe.

Depending on the item, Richard Simons Sports might be a good idea.  I can't personally vouch for him, but the sentiment seems good.

.

I know what you mean about Richard Simon, in the future if I decided to sell an item he authenticated, I wonder if it would get less $ for it because he isn't well known.

These authenticating companies make buying items very intimidating.

It probably depends on the item.  I understand what you are saying - PSA is better known by th general population.  I can't think of many things in my collection I'd send to them if I was looking to resell though.

Can you tell me who to go through for music?

I'm just wondering. . how do you know that JSA does this more than JSA?

I appreciate your input. Helps so much, it's not cheap to use their services and if they let stuff pass that is such a bad feeling to have.

Someone once told me a company should be court approved, but no company lists that on their websites.

Roger Epperson is the music pro.

Roger is with JSA right?

Do you send your music stuff to JSA?

What about a Mickey Mantle signed photo, who would you use?

I'm so glad I found this website, it's such a help to post questions here.

Good question.  Honestly, I'd still go straight to Roger for music.  His name is recognized in the hobby pretty widely.  Honestly, I saw a load of really problematic JSA certified items from my fav band that would further prompt me to avoid JSA.  I don't know what the deal with them is, but it might be better to go to more focused specialists when you can.

I think that PSA is actually pretty good with Mantle, from what I understand.  That's if you need a sticker/COA though.  I'd venture to say that some of our forum members are even better with Mantle, but, obviously, they don't issue COA's.

Thank you so much for your help.

This is such an interesting hobby, I'm new to it, but already hooked!

How long have you been a collector?

Are you familiar with the Universal Autograph Collector's Club?

If so, are they worth my time?

I understand what you saying about JSA and PSA. Do you see these falsely items on auction sites or somewhere else?

I have several items I purchased from an estate sale, Albert Pujols, Mickey Mantle, Emmylou Harris, Dave Mathews Band and Chuck Berry.

I'd like to get them authenticated, then appraised for insurance. I don't want to use a company with a bad reputation.

Thanks for your help, it's appreciated.

Edy, you can always start with free opinions here.  You'll get instant feedback on your Mantle.  I know some have discusses Pujols in the past.  There are plenty of vintage music collectors - there are most certainly people who know Chuck Berry on this foum.  I bete there are a few tha know Emylou and DMB as well.

The opinions here are free.  If anyone spots something they are sure is no good, we might be able to save you a few bucks by skipping the authentication.  Just a thought.

That is a great idea, I'm new to this site and I had no idea that the people on here know how to spot fakes from the real deal.

Do I Just upload pictures of the items?

This is so awesome.

I'm a little nervous to find out if they are fakes, but like you said it's better than losing $$

Mantle is so heavily collected, heavily talked about on this forum that this forum in particular is a great place to start.

In the upper right corner you'll see an "ADD" button with a plus sign.  Click it. Put an appropriate subject line, i.e. "Opinions on Mickey Mantle signed photo."  Make sure you put iit in the right category (Sports autographs, music autographs, etc), even though we'll all see it regardless.  You can upload the photo right to the body of your post (by clicking the photo icon at the top) or add them with the "attach files" option toward the bottom.
