Removing Ink from 60 yr old Glossy

I read other forums here which were very helpful on "how to..." My dilemma: Ink (marker not pen) from a glossy photo that is about 60 years old. I'm probably not going to attempt to omit the inscription but I'd like some thoughts. It's a glossy from the 1960's approx.

Can you upload a scan of the photo in question? If the inscription is in a light area, you may not be able to get it cleanly removed after all those years. The general rule is to begin with something not too harsh, like a dry erase marker, and then work your way up to harsher methods, such as lighter fluid and nail polish remover.

i've always used lighter fluid how do you use a dry erase marker ?

if the ink has the consistency of a felt tip marker, you can take a dry erase marker and write over a portion of the inscription. Then take a tissue or paper towel and gently wipe it and see if it takes off the marker underneath it with it. Wipe away from the rest of the handwriting so you don't smudge it. If the ink does not have the consistency of a felt tip marker, this probably won't work.
