Richard Conte (film noir actor) autograph - vetting authenticity with this group

Hi gang! I just received this wonderful, and I hope authentic, autograph today by Richard Conte. I wanted to vet my acquisition with this group because it came with no COA. Anyone familiar with this actor? Does it look authentic? Any chance this is a reprint? Here is the original listing on Ebay: https://www.ebay.it/itm/326620906248

Attaching a photo of the autograph I received. Thanks for any help you can provide! Kent

Hello, I am sorry but that is a preprint.

I see you have 30 day returns :-)

This sellers William Holden is a preprint as well. As is his David Bruce and Margaret O'Brian...

Thank you for taking the time to reply and for your keen eye Eric! Dang, you win some you lose some.

Warmly, Kent

No problem. Be sure to get a refund :-) Send him this link.

Only...there are differences in the image you shared and the one I've purchased, some of the pen stroke marks are different...the stroke on the upper part of the 'R' for instance and there is fading in different places...or am i grasping for straws lol.

I must apologize! I was wrong. That is not a patching preprint! Great eye.

Cool! May be genuine. No need to apologize. Not a problem at all! It is so very close and helpful to look at....you found the absolute perfect image to compare it too to look for differences. Thanks again Eric!

Can you tell if it is hand signed? Is the ink sitting on top? Look in the glare of a strong light and see if the signature disappears into the photo paper/image.

As there appears no ink cross-over, the inscription is generic and it is 5x7 I would want to rule out a different preprint template. The ink is so very black and dense and yet there is that odd lighter bit at the "d."

Thanks Eric, good to learn from experienced collector. Yes there is some fading on the 'd' - I did adjust the color slightly which may have upped the contrast. In any case...I'm putting a label of 'Maybe authentic' on this one for now!

Hello again,

There were some very high quality facsimiles sent from Vivien Leigh and Olivier that were also dense black "ink" and rather convincing until you got on top of them. Those were, IIRC, matte finish postcards and the signatures just sat on the surface. I don't know what to make of the limited "fading" on the letter "d" on yours - the dark edges and lighter middle suggest a stamp but there are no other signs of this at all (bubbles etc.). Would love to see this in hand.
