Risks of Buying from "Autograph-Ignorant" Auctioneers: Fake Frank Sinatra Signed "Oceans 11" Sells for $11,000!!

We've all seen and read about auctioneers that sell autographs that have NO BUSINESS selling autographs because they have no clue what they are doing. All they can go by is "hearsay".    Case in point, a couple days ago J Levine Auctioneer sold several Frank Sinatra movie posters and lobby cards "supposedly" signed by Sinatra.     Of course any experienced collector knows without even looking at them, the chances Frank Sinatra authentically signed 20-30 movie posters is Extremely unlikely, if you know Frank Sinatra's signing habits.

J Levin had an Oceans 11 movie poster with most of the cast's "signatures"? that sold for $11,000!     The Frank Sinatra is 100% a secretarial forgery (possibly an outright non-secretarial forgery) . Same with the Dean Martin. And most likely al the other signatures.

So some over excited , inexperienced buyer got shafted big time.    ANd, the irony is without the fake signatures the poster is actually quite valuable. However, now with "graffiti on the poster, it is deemed near worthless.

ANd if you take a look at the other 15-20 Frank Sinatra "signed" posters and lobby cards you will see ALL are secretarial forgeries (most likely unauthorized forgeries per the similar signature style/impressions).    So be careful when dealing with an auctioneer (or dealer) that obviously does NOT specialize in autographs as the risks go up exponentially..
