Hey guys,
I know a lot of bands don't like signing a pickguard since they scream ebay. I have only got one signed before a white one with a normal black sharpie so far the signature seems fine.
However I want to get a band to sign a black one next week and since I have bad luck with silvers dying I wanted to use a bronze/gold sharpie for some reason when I tested it the both smear or wipe off am I doing something wrong? what do I need to do to keep the marker on the guard
thanks much appericated

Steven, pick up a few of the Sharpie oil-based paint pens from Michael's if you can (the water-based counterparts are not advisable due to how easily they flake off). Select the fine-point ones, as the thickness of the pen strokes are actually just about identical to that of the large medium point ones, and the smaller fine-point ones are much easier to prep on short notice.
I can't vouch for how well they'll work on a pick guard, but I've tested most of the colors on glossy photos. If they're properly charged, the ink is often dry in as little as 30 - 45 seconds. After about a minute or so, you can't even scratch the ink off.
thank you for the fast reply and help ill try to get to Michael's before the show much appericated thanks rich
No problem. Let us know how it works on the pick guards. They take a tad bit more work than your usual silver/bronze/gold Sharpie, but the ink is most certainly better. I didn't find the prep all that bad. I gave a red one to Shirley Manson a couple months back with just a couple quick shakes, and it worked surprisingly well.
