To provide an update on this, I also recieved the 3 x 3 insert and mine was also smudged badly.

I wrote a somewhat angry email to their support, stressing that when I ordered there was no mention of an insert nevermind a tiny 3 x 3. 

They responded by apoligising and issuing me with a full refund, and they did not request I return the vinyl.
