We're an eBay affiliate and may be compensated on purchases made through clicks.

So according to sportsmemorabilia.com and their FAQ section they "only purchase from the largest suppliers with direct contracts with the athletes and teams"

That's a lie as several of their new items were just auctioned by an auction house meaning the bid and won the items.

They also say they "do not purchase from individuals" yet right now I'm looking at an item on a personal eBay page that is also on sportsmemorabilia.com

They go on to say "we do not purchase memorabilia from the open market"

Can anyone tell me what I'm missing here?

I don't think you're missing anything, Carlos.

The basically have a listing aggregate where they will buy the item put there cert on it and sell it to you at their premium...

I messaged a guy on eBay who has the same items. He said he has all the items and they also list it on their site for more. If it sells on the site they send him money and a shipping label ..

So they are just choosing items they like online and claiming they have it. Still doesn't explain the lies in the FAQ
Last I looked, they mostly had things on consignment. Things that may be listed other places, too.
For a fact, Sports Memorabilia uses a crawler, which hits eBay and sveral other sites, and just draws in the item image and descriptions. They then mark them up utilizing an algorithm. Not rocket science.
What's a crawler
Essentially it combs a site and pulls specific info from it. They then capture the info and feed it into their site. They are essentially acting as a middle man and getting a markup of the item sells, then they buy it and voila it arrived to you. They aren't lying per se as its a drop ship and they aren't really buying it but I agree it's deceptive.
Well it is lying considering they say they don't buy from the public and all their items come from people directly associated with the sportsperson/team
