Yes, I think your Steve McQueen is real!

Hi Steve,

Thanks,

Martin.

P.S. It is in a local sale with some other autographs. The estimate is £6-£8. I will be happy with that price.

You might be OK at twice that!

Thanks Tim.

Martin

I know what you mean, Tim, but I think that’s most likely from the signing situation and the autograph book. It has a lot going for it.

The autograph sold for £60....Not to me.

I did ask a UACC expert to look at it and he told me to stay from it.

So I would of paid £20 but I was not prepared to go to £60 +.

Darn it. Martin, I should have posted McQueen exemplars for you to compare it to.

I think you'll find some here with similar characteristics:

The price often can be a sign regarding authenticity, but this was a local sale, sounds something like an estate sale, and there were only a few autographs. And the value estimate was low for someone hoping to score with a forgery.

The McQueen looks like it was signed in public on a handy piece of paper, which keeps it from being as flowing in some places. Compare  "Mc", the shape of the "T" and the size and placement of its cross with the other exemplars; and the way the second "e" of Steve rises and tilts a bit to the left (the last signatures in the third and fourth rows are similar in that respect).

The thing is Steve.... I would have had to bid more than £60 and time you add fees and shipping, it would have cost me over £100 and that’s a lot of money for a fake.

If 10 people had agreed it was real and my UACC man had said it was real.... I would have kept bidding .

Thanks for yours and Tim’s help anyway
