I started this thread to gather information on Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett signatures to hopefully determine just how rare or common he is to collect.
As well as hopefully determine current market values.

I really appreciate you taking the time to post all this Jenna
I'm waiting for my FB approval and then I can dig in further
I have a hard time believing the Cheffins books would be forgeries for several reasons. And one of them would be that they were sold in grouped lots and not individually. Plus those signatures look very authentic. Also, if it ever came to light that these were forged, it would do some serious damage to Cheffins reputation. These books have been in circulation for so long now, that some experts would have picked up on them by now.
Btw... I have those contract sigs on file which are a great group to have.
thx again and I'm enjoying your inputs here
I think this is one of the best threads this year by a newer member. Really inspiring growth and the data accumulated has been really impressive!!
Thank you once again Eric
It is indeed a nice little package here and great to have Jenna on board and adding new information
Thanks. Been mostly lurking on here on and off for bursts the last year.
I'm on the autistic spectrum & Syd is one of my past special interests / obsessions, currently it's Dennis Wilson & The Beach Boys (Doctor Who, John Lennon, Brian Jones & Joe Strummer were another) but have got back into Syd just at a lower level.
I see where you're coming from. All good interests.
Feel free to share here and please let me know if you ever see a Barrett item come up 4 sale.
The fan group post wasn't claiming that Cheffins forged Syd's signature but a buyer or buyers of job lots could have added it to unsigned books later + it was only one person's speculation. Sorry, turned up in group searches for 'signature' below the main post I was quoting & quickly added it while I remembered & still had the orig post open it.
OK thanks for the clarity.
I haven't seen any evidence of this, but of course I haven't even seen a quarter of them listed yet haha
It would be a crying shame and complete destruction of property to deface these rare items. But I wouldn't put it past some people's mentality as I have already seen pages and or portions of his notebooks for sale. GRRRRRRRRR !!!!!
Thx again Jenna
You're a refreshing addition to this thread
Remember this one I posted? Well here's the story from the owner in the UK.
"I purchased this from a lady who was Syds friend who lived in Cambridge , she said it was autographed in the record shop Millers where she worked, she didn`t charge me a premium for this and she told me there were two rare records in the collection one a pink Elvis and the other a Bowie with a dress on, she was correct with one.She had forgotten that she had the signature and I didn't know until I asked her that she even knew Syd and only based on my conversation and her Knowledge of Syd and their friendship I think its genuine. If you know any of Syds old mates ask them if they knew Pauline Blades, she was a very attractive blonde lady back in the day.
I have never seen another record signed by Syd, but apparently it was promo giveaway ,not an expert but the letters do look correct.based on other autographs
the ironic twist is some of the collection I have were Syds and mates all muddled up but I haven't got a clew which ones
Good luck with your research."
I still don't believe it's authentic but this story definitely gives me 2nd thoughts. I need to follow these leads. And my first question is, does anyone here know who Pauline Blades is and did Syd sign for record promos?
Overall this does look good, until you break it down, then it starts to fail. But now I have serious doubts and am 50/50 on it.
"Does anyone here know who Pauline Blades is and did Syd sign for record promos?"
Just searched Birdy Hop - somebody asked Ian Moore who knew Syd if he knew "a woman named Pauline Blades by any chance? or a Pauline Arnold ?"
(not sure if two separate people or an alt name for her)
Ian Moore replied
" Don't recognise the name would know if I saw a photo"
(quotes burried at the bottom of this thread https://www.facebook.com/groups/birdiehop/permalink/853198024829007/ )
awesome Jenna thanks
I see I've been accepted on Birdie Hop group. I'll see you over there lol
This is getting interesting. And it's good that the owner is researching as well. She wants to know more about this signature as well
