Hey all,

I need some opinions on the card in the picture below. It is another one from my fathers collection who sadly passed away last year. He had it displayed which means he did think of it as a very special part of his collection. I am finding all sorts of great items in the collection but this one is odd. Please see the picture, it appears to be a 1954 Topps Ted Williams graded by a company named PSG (Paper Stock Grading)?

Question one, is this a authentic 1954 card?, Question 2, does anyone know anything about PSG and their grading reputation?

Thanks in advance everyone

This pre-1980 card forum should be able to help you. Never heard of that grading company myself, but that card looks sweet. Somebody should be able to give to expert advice over there. Good Luck!

The first issue of Sports Illustrated included Topps Preview cards.  I'm not familiar with PSG either, but they identified this card as coming from that Sports Illustrated.  It would not have the value of a regular issue card.

I've seen this grading company before. They were used to grade cards PSA and others would not. You'll see them grade cut cards, the old strip cards, cut out book pictures, some of the old silk tobacco cards and the Ray-O-Print cards. The ones I've actually looked at by them are graded pretty high for what they should be. I saw a Ray-O-Print with a clear bad corner given a 9.

I wouldn't have graded this card a 9. Centering would have dinged the grade. Still a pretty nice card though.

Very little value.

A sampling of cards from the 1954 Topps were printed on a fold out and included with Sports Illustrated #1. The magazine is worth substantially less without the foldout and by themselves, the paper thin stock "cards", cut from the sheet, are of very little value, if any.
