I was hoping to start a thread about the modern-day "Holy Grail" of autographs. Who is that, in your opinion? Who is the person (celeb/athlete/musician) who is the hardest autograph to score, someone totally elusive? (Perhaps they didn't use to be as difficult.) And then, spinning slightly off that theme, who are the people who are not only known as "hard to get" but those who you have also had oh-so-close calls with?

Any thoughts?

Living only? If not, how long gone?

Great question, Steve. Let's say living only.

Jimmy Page has said that he is done with the whole autograph thing. At the It Might Get Loud premiere, Page, the Edge and White were in attendance. Apparently those three agreed upon a no signing/straight into the venue type of deal. Though, the Edge kept apologizing to us about it when he was waived over.

Jack White III doesn't like to sign, though this is understandable considering the glossy mounds shoved in front of him. He fits himself into a Bob Dylan paraphrase from Don't Look Back - "You don't need (my autograph), I'd give it to you if you needed it." I have acquired White's signature since then, but I do understand where he is coming from with that anecdote. I do have a fairly large Stripes collection, for they are my favourite band that I have had the oppurtinity to 'grow up with.'

David Crosby has been notorious for his testicular cancer phrases when asked. I cannot recall where I read it on this forum, but a fellow member wrote of an entertaining evening when as Crosby was leaving a venue, he saw a group of people waiting outside. Without a peep from the group, Crosby declared that he wasn't signing anything. The group responded in unison, "we never asked you." When CSNY toured here, they played at an arena which certainly would not give me the oppurtinty to even be turned down.  I acquired on the market a copy of CSN's Greatest Hits signed by each of them, which is authenticated by Roger Epperson. The latter part booted the relutance out of me to purchase it; I have a thing against hits collections.

Page signed a bunch at the LA premiere of Might Get Loud.

Right on. They weren't too friendly in Toronto.

Neil Armstrong!  At least Jimmy Page still signs.

@SteveC;   didn't you use to have a section in the AMag on the best and worst signers of the years...

like McCartney, Tom Cruise and the up&down Sarah Palin

Wow great idea...but its so hard to pick....I would say for me Michael Jordan just because of what he done for basket ball...Tiger Woods for what he's done for golf...and Ali..simply because he was the man...not sure about there signing patterns for fans but Iam sure they all can't be to easy to obtain...

I know of Tiger Woods signing a deal with Upper Deck. This gives Upper Deck the exclusive rights to sell his autograph.

Speaking of Michael Jordan, here is an autograph card of his, as well as ones from Bird and Jordan.  I received them back from PSA/DNA today, all unable to be certified.

Please let me know if you guys think they are worth submitting to JSA.

Dylan for sure

unless your name is Chumlee and happen to be on Pawn Stars.  Did you see how silly that episode was as if anyone would believe he "just bumped" into him!
