So I get an email about a new auction from The Written Word. One item was a signed photo from Harry Potter. (Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint & Alan Rickman). The Rickman looked way off.
So I sent an email to the dealer asking about. I just asked where it was signed. Since the sigs don't look good. I got this reply....
"I don't. It is on consignment from a trusted consignor and I have authenticated the signatures. If you have any question - don't bid.

I know. He seems to be running a reputable company. So for him to take this "don't bid on it" attitude was a bit confusing. He could have just said let me look into it. Nothing. Well now I know will not be buying from his auctions.

I agree with Mike that there's some good stuff and some bad stuff. Paul Newman is bad. The Gary Cooper stuff actually looks good. No to the Tony Curtis. The Sammy Davis Jr. is secretarial, along with the Jackie Gleason based on information posted on this site. Alan Ladd is good. Robert Mitchum 10x8 looks pretty good. Charlton Heston no good. Likely no to the Gregory Peck. No to the John Wayne. No to the Elvis. Those are some I skimmed through at first glance. That's the gist of it from stage and screen.
P.S. - Somebody should have mentioned that this site was NSFW.
not safe for work, and by that i think he means since there is nude/ topless model signed items on the site it's not something you want to be looking at while working
I was on the UACC website and they are listed as a registered dealer. Makes it worse when I think about the guys reaction to me questioning the item.
Actually, The Zipper is a member here and a PM ought to get the ball rolling. And time for me to go get some more secretarials from there for the thread on Secretarials.
Authenticity aside, that's a pretty unprofessional response.
That's my biggest beef with this.
I suppose anyone can have a bad day, but you'd think a business like this that's been around for a while would have customer service nailed down a bit better. Regardless of the reason for his response, the perception is "Don't know, don't care, quit wasting my time."
That is a classic response that I have heard many times from a number of places, especially Coach's Corner. It is often time used when a question of validity over an item arises and regardless of reason the responder looks down at the one making the inquiry. Said another way (and good advice by the way) "if you don't like it, don't bid".
