Hello All,

I a am new to the discussions here in your wonderful community. I have been reading for a while and have learned some valuable information about the hobby...most good and some bad.

My question is about having something authenticated by an autograph expert with great credentials and a stellar reputation....but has little notoriety and/or following. If such an expert expresses an opinion but a TPA comes along and disagrees with the opinion. Where does one stand with that signed piece?

Most..if not all reputable auction houses will want PSA/DNA or JSA coa's before they list an item in their auction. I know that an opinion is just that...an opinion, and I have read all of the negative press out there about the mistakes made by the 2 power houses of the authentication world...but what happens next if that person wants to go to market with the item?

Does anyone think that the hobby will turn to a more balanced approach and start recognizing the credible independant autograph authenticator...who of course has all the credentials and reputuation to back it up. Or is there just too much money to be made in this type of authentication game and nothing will change?

Lastly, who would be some of the better independant experts out there?

Thanks.

Well, perhaps an item like that should be posted here to get the opinion of any collectors who may know the signature on whether it is authentic or not.

I think that reputable and qualified independent authenticators are going to be a growing force in the hobby. I also hope that PSA and JSA will use them more actively than they generally do today.

What are the details on your situation?

Lastly, who would be some of the better independant experts out there?

It really depends on what the item is as there are some very focused specialists in specific genres and some generalists who do a decent job as well.
