I have a Thurman Munson autographed ball from 1977 that failed authentication at JSA because they believe it didn't age right for its age. It was kept in a plastic case in a bedroom drawer for over 35 years. I am not sure what they expect it to look like after it being enclosed and in the dark away from harmful  uv rays.

If there are any experts out there on Thurman Munson's signatures reading this, your opinion is very much appreciated!

I am willing to take this somewhere different to authenticate but not at $150 to be denied again.

Can anyone please steer me in the right direction?

I agree with JSA on this one.

Thanks Mike for your opinion. May I ask why?

The black ink of the autograph would have faded into the leather of the baseball in the same way that the blue ink of the markings has faded into the leather of the baseball over the years.  It has nothing to do with ultraviolet light.

Wouldn't that depend on the type of ink from the pen being used? I don't believe all inks saturate or fade the same. It doesn't appear to be ball point, perhaps felt tip or sharpie?

The autograph also has a couple of atypical characteristics that concern me.  Sorry Scott.  Let's wait to see what other members have to say about it.

Thanks Mike for your input. It is appreciated even though its not what I want to hear.

The ball and autograph is most definitely real.

I also agree with JSA on this one. it is very slowly written and far too neat.  It is definitely not authentic.

Scott, Sorry to disappoint you, but to be blunt, if this ball was indeed signed by Thurman Munson, there is no chance that it's the same Thurman Munson who played Major League Baseball.  It's simply not his handwriting.

It looks to me as if a female signed the ball Thurman Munson. Possibly the janice person its inscribed to?
