Tupac autograph
Purchased this from a gentleman who says he has been a collector for years...Started collecting as a kid and obtained this Tupac autograph through the mail by writing a letter to his home, he Says Tupac sent the auto in response to his letter. I was considering sending this to PSA for authentication, but it is fairly costly to do so. F50DF10B-7679-4D63-9733-AC0A15E434CD.jpeg I am new on here and to the autograph world. How much did you pay for that?
Did it come with the return envelope? That's an important piece of a TTM autograph. Without the envelope, this autograph is suspect.

Thanks for your reply...i asked the seller about that...he says he provided a self addressed return envelope so no point in keeping the envelope. Makes sense I guess. Thanks!

Disagree about the envelope. Perhaps it was not that important many years ago to collectors, but in today's age of forgery, the added paper trail is valuable.
I used to send TTM requests as a kid and I always included the envelope in the request. I threw most of them away because I never imagined them having much monetary value in the future. I regret that. Now when I look through auction catalogs, I often see the original return envelopes included in the lot, and I do notice an increase in value when it is included. Occasionally, you'll get a "twice signed" request, when the celebrity signs the item and then also writes their name and return address in the top left of the envelope.
At the very least, the envelope gives you the date, and the location of the celebrity in the form of the city postmark. It helps with authentication.
What you have there is a scrap of ruled paper with a very faded signature. Nothing else. It would be nearly impossible to authenticate that 2Pac.

Just to add to my post...
I'm not saying the guy who sold you that item scammed you. It very well could be authentic, and obtained through the mail.
However, you have to think about the marketability of the autograph you bought. Are you going to keep this autograph forever? No. Even if you keep it until your death, your family will inherit a headache. It will have no documentation.
Did the gentleman give you a signed affidavit as to how and when he acquired this autograph?
How will you market this autograph when you go to sell it in the future? You will most certainly get many skeptics and the price will surely be depressed. That's why I asked how much you paid for it.

No I did not receive an affidavit from the seller and never thought to ask for one. He just said he obtained it as a child and because it was so long ago he couldnt remember the year. I am a huge Tupac fan so purchased it more for myself and to pass to my kids who are also huge Tupac fans. At first glance it almost appears to be faded, but it almost looks like it’s signed in a silver crayon...not saying that’s what it is signed with but that’s what it looks like. Luckily I didn’t pay that much for it on eBay and when I asked the seller why he sells his autographs so cheap if they are authentic he says he starts the bidding low to attract bidders and interest and in his opinion autographs are over inflated. He is selling his collection off because now that he is older he has decided there is more to life than collecting. This is what he has told me anyway. I would love to know for myself and my kids if it is indeed thought to be authentic but I am seeing that it’s probably not worth the $260 to send to PSA.

You can ask them for a quick opinion by sending them the photo. I think it's $10. They'll just compare it against known exemplars and tell you if it's likely authentic. I'm not knowledgeable enough about Tupac's signature and I don't have any examples on my computer.

I have tried that with psa and they will only look at active auctions on eBay and since its already ended and I have purchased it they won’t do the quick opinion unfortunately!

Take a nice scan and list it for free on E-Bay with a buy it now of 50,000 cronkites and then use the 10.00 quick opinion. There is 1 snowballs chance in HELL that this is authentic. Just another story passed on e-bay everyday all day....IMHO LOLOLOLOL Oh and when it comes back likely not authentic....Start an open case as " significantly not as described" against the seller immediately without even trying to talk to the guy and send it back and get your money back. They will give you instructions to send it back with tracking. That's My opinion and don't buy anymore forgeries just because you like the guy. Toopick
