There was a discussion about this a few weeks ago about personal experiences and observations with both.  I've never gauged much of a consensus on which one is better than the other, as both can miss the mark at times.

Just remember, it's going to be just impossible for any of these authentication companies to be 100% accurate.  Think of how many modern celebrities have terrible, rushed signatures that are just about impossible to authenticate.  I've seen PSA stickers on items that are such poor examples there's NO WAY they could have concluded it was authentic.

Looks like it was posted under the "Auction Houses" section.  Good topic, wrong location perhaps.

It must have been closed by the member who posted the discussion. There's no reason for us to have closed it—we rarely do that. I'll move it to authentication services, too.

The problem is they NEVER admit the mistakes? Or try to correct them that would take money out of their pockets, so the only thing one can do is point out their mistakes so others can learn...

correction louie - publically!  They like so many others do their "corrective" work on phone calls and behind the scenes.  What they don't do as far as I can see is correct the errors that exist in the tracking databases.

rule of thumb - psa on "hollywood", jsa on sports has been cited to me from a number of dealers.  There is obviously some overlap and specialties

and as we all know - when they make mistakes some are "whoppers" and many just simply noted (& even if there is an agenda - who cares?.  Did i see Vanderhoven is back under a new ethincal name that no way can i pronounce.  Stay on subject as it's the illustrations that are helpful to collectors not the constant bickering and I'm gonna tell your mother nonesense.  and yes Grant & others I have been here a long time and saw the many posts (and as some know very well came under considerable personal attacks here and on now defunct blogs as well as via phone & email messages), I see no reason to become a terrorist as terrorism gains very little as history has proven - even if it is on blogs.

It's the subject, experiences & illustrations that matter.  Our opinions are no more or no less than our opinions...   having said that though the greater majority of AML commenters are very well versed in a number of areas.

they are both equal.  If you look at it from a resale value, as opposed to say, a GAI cert, both companies still seem to carry some value if an item is authenticated by either one.

as far as who is more reliable, that would be debatable.  I think they are also about equal as I have seen several errors from both sides, but not near the amount you see from some of these other companies that will pass anything.

What got me wondering about which to choose was that psa want $250 to examine a nirvana autograph and jsa want $150.I thought psa cost more because they were better.

Ah, good thought their Aring - very cwver "watson".

or don't we have a nirvana post or two around here?

if that's the case then I'd go the least expensive approach as spending alot of $$ with the greater probability of learning "we told you so" can be a very hard expensive lesson.

That said, your "quick opinion" suggestion & ones on going via REAL then make the most sense based on rates.  Seems getting one from Roger at that rate would be a great bargain for that matter.

I would not use either one for music they have too many errors and they do not fess up when they are pointed out to them, use Roger

Louie, good point.  Or as suggested before post it here and maybe Roger can chime in or go for a quick opinion as previously suggested if he has Nirvana expertise.

IF Roger is having trouble and the sujbect of this is thread is one of them than I don't see how either PSA or JSA would be in a better position to opine on it.
