The only person that comes to mind is James Watt. He lived to 1819 so the date fits

Or James Watt, Junior. Makes sense the son would correct the biography of his famous father.

My father and Cordelia listed it as James Watt, steamship inventor, but it looks to me to be his sons hand.  James Watt had a distinct looping at the bottom of his signature.
