Even if that was somehow authentic, which I doubt. I would think it is so far off the norm that it should have been rejected. Hard to believe that have a good number of exemplars like this.

Looks like a JSA money grab to me. Seeing more and more of their rubber stamping almost anything these days.

I know that Schmidt during his playing days, was a very difficult, often unwilling signer. While I have never seen this style, it would not surprise me if it were authentic.  Having said that, I see no way that anyone would have the exemplars to support  it.

Terry, just a what if.........somebody got the Dale Murphy in person, had JSA authenticate it, and then scribble the harder-to-get Schmidt on it later. You think that would be possible?
I think that is what happened. If you look up the verification number, it says the SIGNER is Dale Murphy, which as a Braves fan who has met Murph many times over, I can say personally that the signature is authentic. It goes on to say in the NOTES section "with Mike Schmidt." I think the person got Murphy, had it authenticated, and then scribbled this crap on their for Schmidt. Always a freakin' scam artist out their to trash somebody's name and make a quick buck. Hate this stuff.

Jeff, it certainly is possible. but I would think that the scam artist would have done a better job at forging the Schmidt.  I know its a mess, but it actually has some positive characteristics. but no doubt, it ruined a great photo with a nice Dale Murphy signature.

Believe it or not that's how he would sign IP in the 80's and early 90's. Basically a line and then schmidt. Many documented IP examples on another autograph website. The funny thing is the other year he was talking about how bad athletes signatures have gotten lol

Personally, I think Schmidt put a much nicer autograph on this item offered by ebay seller scott.noah2013
