While I own some TAGS scripts, I confess I had no idea that original scripts for TAGS were worth anywhere near that. Unless one of the stills is super rare, and that was what they were bidding on. I do not collect stills either, but I think that is unlikely.
I suspect the four bidders who bid over $300 for the lot are Andy Griffith fans bidding on that original script. I am a bit puzzled why Henry Calvin had this script since he was not in the episode at all. The seller, I suspect, just assumed he was in the show because he had a copy of the script. That particular episode starred Alan Hale, Jr.; it would not have been a role for which Calvin would have been a likely candidate. Normally, shooting scripts will have the cast listed, but there was no scan of that page. It has been a while since I watched that episode, but I would have remembered Henry Calvin.
I do not collect scripts (unless they are signed), so perhaps (S02E13) "The Farmer Takes a Wife" is a particularly difficult one to come by. I certainly had no idea they were worth what this one went for. I could not find other TAGS original scripts on eBay, so maybe they are rarer than I thought. I know there would be a limited number printed for the cast, crew, and others.
Another lot was for a Petticoat Junction lot with a script and call sheet for an episode that Henry Calvin was indeed in. That went for $306.88, with two bidders going over $75.
The script (I assume it was not an ad-lib) has Alan Hale, Jr. call Barney "Little buddy," a catchphrase that would be synonymous with Gilligan's Island. If the original script has this line (transcribed online copies do), it might interest those who collect that show.
I want to congratulate the winner of this lot. They own some wonderful pieces of entertainment history. If anyone does collect original scripts, I would be interested in learning more about them and their value.
