I also own:

  • Major General Francis Barlow - "The Boy Faced General" - left for dead at Gettysburg, Harvard Graduate, Prosecutor of Boss Tweed.
  • Major General Emory Upton - an amazing 1871 West Point-written letter to Thomas Ruger, where Upton was Commandant of Cadets '70-'75, Ruger would soon be Superintendent of West Point ('71-'76). Known for his famous tactical development at Spotsylvania Courthouse, developed important post-war tactical manual and implemented important US Military overhauls. Later committed suicide.
  • Lieutenant J.S. Walker, a Commissary who was killed outside of Charles Town (West) VA, where I live. His account is mentioned in the Official Records and 3 different memoirs from the Mosby's Raiders.
  • My final piece is a signed and war dated  by Col. Samuel J. Newbury clipping, he was killed at Weldon Railroad after being captured.
  • I have a 9th piece in the works also... it's being held for me, but it's too early to officially mention it yet.

Excellent stuff! I'd be interested in seeing the Barlow signature. I have some of Franklin B. Gowan - an influential figure of the same era. Nice work!

Thanks Irishjohan, This weekend I will post large pictures of the front and back of the Francis C. Barlow letter. It is a letter to his friend Edwin Abbott, another Harvard Graduate.

Cheers Matthew - If there are any you are looking for, don't hesitate to ask - I have a few McClellan examples myself too, and some items connected to Tammany Hall and Boss Tweed. I find the era very interesting.
