Does anyone else collect these types of autographs?  I have a collection of over 200 books and 500 plus autographs of men and women who fit into the above.  Almost all of the autographs I have collected have been done in person.

Hi T.H. - this is an area that I am just getting started in. I've gotten the list of living CMOHs and want to start collecting these this coming month. I have a couple of the astronaut autographs but nothing organized yet.

I want to keep in touch and join the group.
Sounds good. I would like to hear who you get and where and when you get them. If you go to my web page on this site there is a link to my personal site where you can see some of my autographs from Astronauts and CMOH receipients.
World War II Weekend in Reading PA is a great place to get autographs from some famous WWII vets. This year 3 Doolittle Raiders, Triple Ace Bud Anderson, Hiroshima Navigator Dutch Van Kirk, and Korean War Ace Boots Blesse. I love this Event!!! Also the anniversary of Apollo 13 is coming up and Air and Space Museum is having a great event. Check out their web site!!
I have at least ten autographs of Astronauts. I even have the photo of Neil Armstrong in the space suit with the moon in the background. To my dismay the autograph is starting to fade. Neil Armstrong autographed it in large letters which makes it even cooler. When I have some more time I will scan them so you can see them. Have a nice day.

flown Apollo 8 checklist from Christmas Eve 1968 when the first earthrise pictures were transmitted at exhibition.

The flightpath of Apollo 8 was planned in every detail before the launch, still there were several opportunities where this mission could have been aborted like later happened with Apollo 13. This could be due to technical problems but also due to communication problems with mission control Houston. In that case the three astronauts would have been on their own to return safely to the earth.
For this case there were the "updates" checklists. These are contingency checklists for the worst case which would have shown the maneuvers to be performed to return safely to the earth - even without any communication to mission control!
These were calculated based on actual flight data and then transmitted by voice from mission control Houston to the Apollo 8 spaceship were one of the three astronauts recorded them in the "updates" book.
This checklist here was written by Frank Borman during the flight onbard- transmitted by Capcom Jerry Carr in Houston :

(scroll down to to see the actual voice recording mentioning this checklist called PAD TEI-3 along with further explanations re. these maneuvers)

This checklist has been written around the time when the first pictures of mankind's first (famous) earthrise were broadcasted - this was on Xmas eve when also the famous "In the beginning god" speech has been delivered from the moon by the astronauts.

This year's MOH convention will be held in Charleston, South Carolina. On the MOH web site they have the scheduled dates of the activities. The autograph session will be held on the aircraft carrier Yorktown. This is where the MOH Society Headquarters is located.
I have been collecting Astronauts and WWII autographs for about 12 years. My library passed 2,000 books a couple of years ago and I do not know how many signed 3X5 cards of pilots and crew members from WWII I have. A large portion were collected in person at "Airventure" in Wisconsin which takes place the last week in July every year. NASA always sends a couple of astronauts, the WASP and Tuskegee Airmen are always present bringing several surviving members and there is always some of the leading people involved in the future of aviation and space travel such as the Rutan brothers. Sir Richard Branson, Harrison Ford, Gary Sinese and Cliff Robertson are there nearly every year as they are members. Another thing I collect is Signed display models of aircraft and space shuttles. I have acquired 45 of these now all obtained at "Airventure". Give it a try and I guarantee you that you will feel like you have hit the mother load. Good Luck!

Wow! Impressive collection. I went to Airventure a couple of years ago. Tough to get to though because I live in Delaware.
At 4:00 a.m. this morning MOH recipient David McNerney passed away. May he rest in peace with the other heroes of our country.
