Hello ...... Beginner here. I'm looking for suggestions for the best way to prepare a Leather Ice Skate for an autograph?

I have a pair of older ice skates that I want Bobby Hull to autograph but they need a good cleaning first. If saddle soap is used will the autograph adhere or is there a better preparation method?

Can anyone suggest the best way to clean and prepare the leather so the autograph will last and what signing pen would be the best (silver, gold sharpie)?

Thanks

Hi John,

I'll have to defer to to other collectors on here who are more experienced getting skates signed. But, I would imagine they wouldn't be too different than getting leather shoes or cleats signed. I would guess that using saddle soap to clean them would work best. Regarding the proper pen to use, if they are white skates I would probably use either a black paint pen or a blue Sharpie marker (if you want the auto in blue). I prefer paint pens in general, but I haven't been able to find a paint pen that has the same attractive blue hue as the blue Sharpie marker. They are either darker or lighter.
