Kate Elizabeth Winslet (Reading, 5 October 1975) is a British actress. She received her first Oscar nomination at the age of twenty, for her performance in Sense and Sensibility (1995); in 1997 she reached the peak of popularity thanks to the leading role in the blockbuster Titanic (1997), which at the time became the most commercially successful film of all time. His subsequent performances in the films Iris (2001), Eternity (2004), Neverland (2004), Little Children (2006), Revolutionary Road (2008), Carnage (2011), Wonder Wheel ( 2017) and in the television series Mildred Pierce (2011) and Easttown Murder (2021) have met with critical acclaim. She has received seven Oscar nominations, winning Best Actress for her role in The Reader (2008); throughout her career she has also been awarded five Golden Globe Awards, five BAFTA Awards, four Screen Actors Guild Awards, two Critics Choice Awards and a César Award. Having also won a Grammy Award (in the "best spoken word album for children" category) and two Emmy Awards, Kate Winslet is among the few artists who have won at least three of the four major US awards in the entertainment industry; in 2012 the actress was awarded the honor of Commander of the Order
