That is a very early Bowie. Where did you get it? What year do you think it was signed?

Eric, it’s dated Jan(uary) ’71.  This would have been signed during David’s first ever visit to the United States, in support of The Man Who Sold the World.

David flew from London to Washington, DC on Saturday, 23 January 1971.

Thanks, I can see the date. The signature appears very well organized and even has a clean connection between the "B" and "o" which might be considered unusual for 1971. I thought it looked later - perhaps 1972/3. I wonder where it came from.

Presumably, this was signed under more controlled circumstances than your average pre- or post-gig 1972-73 autograph.  Hence, it does look very neat, but I don’t see any red flags here.

I have seen other examples from 1971 of a fully joined-up Bowie autograph, so this isn’t without precedent.  It is obviously extremely rare, though.

Given that this was signed in the month of my birth, I’d love to own it.

It does look very neat, and very fresh. Considering the enormous spate of problematic Bowie's from these years and the 90's that fit that bill one has to be very careful. So much bad has been given the nod during the last 5 or so years. Who authenticated Robby?

And when?

Stepeanut -  I also recall seeing some examples from that year with the joined-up signature.

This was acquired from a seller with a few other vintage Bowie items. 100% authentic. Purchased approx. 3 years back for my personal collection and recently certified by Roger

The problematic Bowie's are within that time period and many have the papers you mentioned, or PSA, RR etc. Who was the seller if you don't mind my asking?
