Sad to hear that Phil Everly died today—while I only know the same few classics that everyone else does, you can trace all the music that I love back to the style of simple harmonies and sing-along choruses that he and Don did so well.

I met him a long time ago at the NAMM Show and he was nicest guy; signed the back of my show schedule, and after I thanked him, he said, "Hey, man—have some of these" and handed me a bunch of guitar picks.

Years later, I finally got to see the Everly Brothers perform a set at a Simon & Garfunkel show, and they blew Paul and Artie off the stage; it wasn't even close. RIP Phil.
