Hello-- A relative wanted me to find out if her Doors autographed photo appears to be genuine. It was acquired via mail from a fan club back in the 60's and was apparently taped on someone's wall. Please tell me if you think it is real & how much it might be worth. Thanks.
Very interesting to hear what others have to say, about the vintage tape look.
I've seen these before. They aren't hand signed autographs, unfortunately. I believe they're either stamped or printed onto the photo.
Exactly right -- I think pre-printed. I have been offered these by people who swear they are real.
the band look pre printed or whatever but Jim's looks different. Although, I can't see why they would pre print the band and have him hand sign them. It is likely just faded.
I appreciate all of your observations; I think I agree w/the pre-printed idea--the signatures for Manzarek & Krieger look too neat and the photo feels smooth around the areas of the signings. It just seems strange that the signatures are in various shades of blue while the photo is black & white; FWIW: there's a handwritten date of 12/67 on the back.
Yep. They were pre-printed. This exactly photo and autographs are even pictured in a Doors book (they look the same, minus the "The Doors" written on it). I once had a guy swearing he got it from a bandmember outside a show at the Fillmore in 1968.
Josh,
If I had a buck for everyone who has told me that lie, I could retire now :).
