I just caught up on a weeks worth of TMZs on my Tivo. I swear, I hate so much of what that show does. In one segment, they got James Belushi made by continuing to make fun of the basket on his moped. And, when celebrities get bothered by people with cameras, that often translates to people asking for autographs, getting stiffed by them.
But George Clooney, as always, was signing up a storm. At one point he said "I thought the Batman picture I signed last time would be the last time I see a photo from that movie. I guess I was wrong." Another woman asked if she could take a photo with him. He looked up and said "You'd have to ask my girlfriend. She'd probably be pretty mad."
So, nobody got a photo. But the crowd of about 100, all seemed to get their items signed. And that's why he's usually on our top 10 list of "best signers" each year.
Wayne Gretzky, perhaps the greatest hockey player of all-time, was in a restaurant. And TMZ showed a man go up and ask him to sign two hockey sticks. One was for him, the other for his son. Wayne was smart. He personalized them.
But, the big no no, is asking for an autograph while a celebrity is eating. It's so easy to just wait, and catch them in the lobby or outside.
It did work for one lucky fan though, so....what do I know?
