As I'm unemployed I've decided to sell all my Signed Photos Collection. To start it, I'm doing my first experience with RR Auctions, (www.rrauction.com), where I'm selling some items:
Item # Item
I have a lot more, - (+/- 400 Items). Please let me know if you're interested. Just to name some of them:
Jazz:
Movies:
Modern Music:
Historic:
Art:
Books
I read too that all the autographs and signatures of the late Ray Charles couldn't be authentic, and the reason why was because Ray Charles could not sign his name in cursive. He could make a simple block signature of the letters R A Y because his mother taught him before he was completely blind... But as you can see, in the past auction search, RR Auction already sold some signed items from him, one signed photo included:
Sold In Auction | Item | Price |
---|---|---|
268 (Dec 2002) | Ray Charles -- DS | $234.00 |
239 (Jul 2000) | Ray Charles -- DS | $195.50 |
232 (Dec 1999) | Ray Charles -- SP | $278.30 |
229 (Sep 1999) | Ray Charles -- Signature | $117.30 |
In Heritage auctions, you can find some, too...
The ones I have:
This one was bought to Ben Fine a Production assistant:
SC, I had asked bobby a similar question as I found it odd they would pass on such an inventory.
MacShade could you post the ones that were rejected by R&R that were previously sold by them along with the music ones that were subsequently rejected?
Wasn't sure how to interpret what you said, "In other side I know that some reputable gallery, like Rock Star Gallery... one the galleries that chooses to have a court approved forensic expert examine every signatures to insure authenticity and 100% guarantees every hand signed collectible. All hand signed collectibles are supported with two Certificate Of Authenticity. A Rock star Gallery - COA which takes full responsibility for every signature and a court approved forensic experts COA which will be supported in a court of law."
There is no such thing as a court approved FDE coa that will be supported in a court of law.
DB, I believe that RR is doing a a follow up consideration of some items. I'm just waiting for the results.
Anyway, as requested, I can give you two examples:
1 - Charles Mingus B&W 8x10

About Rock Star Gallery, I just wrote the statement sent to me by Michael Dunn himself... As I don't know the American Law I just can't judge it...
I am very very very very VERY interested in that Aaliyah autograph you say you have up for sale...when do you plan on putting it up for auction? Will you be able to post a picture of it? Any information you have on it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! :)
I just noticed the Ray Charles pictures. I have a great deal of reservation about these photos, both the document and the photo. I have several blind musicians including Jeff healey, Jose Feliciano, and Doc Watson, and a blind mans signature is not that good, in each example.
But taking my opinion on that out of the equation, i asked the opinion of Ted Leong who has discussed Charles many times in threads about the Charles autographs posted. His opinion was that the Ray Charles in the photo is a known secretarial style of his autograph, and that their have been numerous examples such as this that have popped up on ebay. He also felt that the contract was signed by his attorney. As for the other items from RR auction, of course i cant judge without a picture, but i highly doubt that any of them were authentic.
Ray Charles autographs undoubtedly exist somehwhere out their, but i dont think a legit example has come up for auction in a very long time, if ever. I have heard of Ray Charles's secretary signing photos, but this is the first example i have seen of that, granted i havent been looking for them. most examples are simple forgeries that i have seen. The signatures themselves in very neat cursive writing in almost strait lines is the first real give away to me. The ray charles autograph on the contract is signed strait on the dotted line with no real deviation. The sig basically stays on the baseline and is extremely neat. Probably neater than most sighted men. I dont think its possible he signed that. Taking aside the secretary issue with the picture, the signature has a consistent steady baseline and the writing is extremely neat and fluid. You can read every letter, and no real shakiness or uncertainty about it at all. It has been my experience with blind musicians, and i have numerous examples is that their signatures are never on a consistent baseline for obvious reasons. Most have very poor signatures, as you can see with Jeff Healey, Doc Watson, Feliciano or Jeff Golub, and do not like to sign a full autograph (assuming they had once had sight). Most shorten their signatures to just a few letters or certain marks. Doc Watson didnt sign his name after he went blind, and i got that straight from his childs letter to me. She had to guide his hand as he signed an X on the photograph, and it was very shaky. Their are basically 2 versions of Watson signatures you see out their for sale and neither are from his independent hand. In certain cases for big PR people guided his hand as he spelled Doc, but it was very obvious it was guided. I highly doubt Charles would be any different.
Hi Carl,
Thanks for your comment. Perhaps you can give me your opinion on these ones, too.
1st - Steve Wonder bought at Arundel. It seems that we can find here the same problem as we can read every letter...
2nd: Jeff Healey. I have this one in Houston, Tx, (my family home), and it was colected in person by VinnyH, who lives is San Antonio and met Jeff and his Band. A few of his sites:

And about this one sold in RR Auction today?.... For a blind musician his signature seems to have some consistent baseline... (http://www.rrauction.com/bidtracker_detail.cfm?IN=892):
