 I attempted to delete that message as soon as I did it but for some reason it didn't erase. Lawrence Murphy died 20 years before this was signed. My fault and I let him know already. Lawrence Murphy signed two different ways either LG or Lawrence so the last part of the name is what struck familiar to me. You got my full attention, who is it?

Thanks Scott!  I do believe the last name is Murphy based on your example of Lawrence Murphy, who it is, I’m not sure, I looked up the roster for the rough riders and there were two with the last name of Murphy, James E. And William S. , need to research these two men to see if I can find a signature from one of them.

No problem, I'm not a modern-day entertainer kind of guy. I like the old stuff, especially since I'm getting that way myself. I actually found James E Murphy yesterday, although couldn't locate a signature, but did not find the other one that you mentioned. I really thought I had a match since Lawrence Murphy signed with the full name or just simply LG. I didn't feel awfully bright as soon as I realized he was deceased by 1899. I'll keep trying for you because like I said this is pure entertainment for me, which is probably another sign of getting older. I love these old signatures... They are more of a challenge as far as I'm concerned, since you can't ask anyone to corroborate what you come up with. Haha.

Scott, I’m like you, like the older stuff more of a challenge LOL, the more I look at this I think it’s Will Murphy ( William S Murphy Troop M 1st Volunteer Cavalry) thoughts?

I think it fits a lot better than the James E, for sure. And again, I'm a total rookie and the only thing I've got working in my favor is a love for history. Being a contractor, I like to take things apart and see how they work. Sometimes they don't go back together the way they came apart but I consider it a learning experience anyway. Ha! My start in signatures wasn't all that long ago and it was because of my grandfather's signatures that were given to me from World War II in the Hollywood canteen. He had 65 signatures and I had no clue what I was doing when I started. He got some good signatures though. I had a lot of fun figuring them out and was kind of neat to look at the signatures knowing that they talked to my grandpa back all them years ago. I studied months on those things and know the background of every person who signed for him. It may sound strange but I felt kind of connected to him for the first time while going through those signatures and all his World War II things. It was something he never talked about to anyone. I have a Hollywood canteen ticket for one of the shows right before he shipped out that is in mint condition, not a scratch or smudge anywhere. Dated 1944...

I just found everything that you need on William s Murphy. I hope it is his signature because you won't believe the story behind this guy. I was blown away when I found the information that I did. It all matches up to him including his troop number and hometown. I won't message you again until I talk to you but sent you a friend request so we can talk. It'll be worth your time,  Scott
