Hey everybody, this group was super helpful a while back so I was hoping to have some more success here. I purchased those Chris Evans Signed Canvas about a year and a half ago from eBay. I paid almost $400 for it, at the time the guy guaranteed it, their feedback was completely positive. I did not get it authenticated at the time, but never doubted it’s authenticity due to his willingness to take it back and is super high feedback and volume of other non-authenticated autographed items.

anyway, I tried getting it certified from autograph COA this week and they said it did not pass. but when I am looking on eBay at other Chris Evans authenticated items, the signatures sometimes are really bad so I’m not sure what they base it on or why it can be so variable and authenticated so many places.

I thought about sending it into James Spence or Beckett or something but I’m not sure who I have my best chance with.

The seller is still willing to take back the Canvas, although I would be trusting them to send me money after I sent it back to them but the willingness to take it back does have me thinking about it. I just want to get it authenticated or send it back, I don’t want to keep this expensive item and never know for sure if it’s real or be able to resell it easily.

many thanks!

Anyone?

Unfortunately, Evans' signature is basically un-authenticatable. I recommend that you look at some of the images online that are available of CGC witnessed Signature Series items out there. They are all essentially this kind of squiggle. The fact that the seller is willing to take it back for a refund no questions asked speaks t the seller's confidence, in my opinion. I see an ACE ticket, which is by no means direct proof but it at least narrows down where they say it comes from.

Nothing about that signature seems unusual to me or cause for concern. Evans has a signature that simply can't be realistically authenticated by anyone. IMO, if you get this signature, or any of his other signatures, authenticated by a TPA it was a combination of luck and oversight. If that seller has a great reputation, that's about as close as you can get to being comfortable with an Evans piece.

You could always do a send-in the next time a company offer a private signing, but that's still the kind of autograph you're going to get.

Thanks so much for the info. Yeah I've examined many online and they all seem different even though authenticated, it's crazy there can be that much variance and it makes me wonder how some of them passed if they weren't witnessed, but like you said, maybe just "luck".

I hate to send it back and not get my money back or something when it was actually legit.

Any idea who I'd have best chance to get it to pass authentication? Like is there one between PSA, JSA, Beckett who is MOST LIKELY to pass it?

Thanks!
