Michael Jackson drawings (Miscell inc. 'Historic portraits' and 'Disney characters')

I'm noticing a sudden influx of MJ signed Michael Jackson drawings coming on to the auction market, which seem to share the common themes of either 'portraits of historical figures'  or 'Disney characters'.

Both of these themes are of course recognised from Michaels' drawings both at a young age and later in life, but it is interesting that so many new drawings are being released on to the market at the same time.

Here are some current examples:

Regarding seller of fake MJ items Simon Parr (extensively documented in early pages of this thread, when many dozens of fake 'MJ drawings' were being offered for sale by him.  I've just found this article about his dealings in fake 'David Bowie' drawings, which I hope it will be OK to quote here.

Kristen Leigh Auctions & Simon Parr

22 October 2020

Interesting news regarding the dishonest and fraudulent "auction house" in North Shields, Newcastle UK concerning the long term "art thief" Kristen Leigh aka Simon Parr (or as he is known via mail "Samantha Brown").

Parr recently sold fake Bowie artwork (example above) to a huge Bowie fan in the United States for several thousand pounds. On receiving the item it became clear (upon delivery) that the painting was not a genuine Bowie.

Parr prefers bank transfer only in his transactions but by  a stroke of luck the successful businessman had been allowed on this occasion to purchase the. painting by American Express and was able to claim a refund back from the credit card company. Needless to say, Parr made the whole return transaction as difficult as possible and under his guise of Samantha Brown sent several emails in his familiar illiterate, aggressive style.

Parr however crossed the wrong person as our US resident was understandably incensed and proceeded to file an action with the FBI and Interpol through his lawyer which was registered last week. Undeterred by the physical distance between the 2 countries, our hero will not give up on this action until Kirsten Stewart/Parr/Samantha are sued and closed down. Banned by nearly every global online auction house (including eBay), Parr believes by pretending to be a female his business has more credibility...he's very wrong.

Below - more Kristen Leigh Simon Parr art crime - on the left another Bowie forgery sold for nearly £3000 in February 2020 - on the right the Bowie original it was "copied from".  (See website at the link)

More of his rubbish ( at £3750 each ) can be viewed here: https://presleycollectibles.com/?s=DAVID+BOWIE&post_type=product

Parr has a long trail of fakery in his wake including flooding the market with forged Beatles memorabilia and Michael Jackson clothing, artefacts doodles and signatures. This recent update about his shenanigans is one of many threads about his fraudulent dealings to be found online.

"Simon Parr (owner of Kristen Leigh Auctions) is apparently continuing to off-load his fake 'MJ signed' items via Featonby's auctioneers of North Shields in the UK, who sell online through 'The Saleroom' platform (bids from £300).  The 'Heritage' auctions paperwork is not shown clearly.   This item was however offered (unframed) on Lot-Art by Kristen Leigh back in Feb 2018, for £1k-£1500.  :

Note: Heritage never auctioned the item stated above,

UK readers may be familiar with a radio 4 comedy quiz / panel show called 'I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue'.  No scores are actually recorded for correct answers/ best performances by the panel, but since May 1985 there has been a completely fictional scorer called 'Samantha', who is nevertheless referred to during the show in humourous terms. I wonder if the two 'Samanthas' are perchance related? :)

Good to read that the net is closing on him. Back in the day before the internet, he would have been investigated thoroughly and prosecuted. Nowadays it's just too easy for these terrible excuses for human beings too scam.

I found more recent reviews for 'Kristen Leigh Auctions' on the 'nicelocal.co.uk' website, here:

https://nicelocal.co.uk/north-east/business/kristen_leigh_auctions_...

17 reviews were scored, and I think it's possible to draw some conclusions about how the review average comes out at 4.5.

It's saddening to read that someone was unable to get a refund for an 'Audrey Hepburn' purchase, as recently as last September.   The 'Terms and Conditions' are indeed very strict.

Their offered items do still include occasional MJ fake drawings, so prospective buyers beware.

Not a drawing, but another example of the hazards of relying on UK auction houses to 'do their homework' with regard to 'MJ signed' items.  This item is supposedly an 'MJ signed' letter from Neverland, enclosing an 'MJ signed' printed photo.

The last sentence of the letter reads:

'I hope that you like the signed prints that you sent me'.  (Where is the 'facepalm' emoji???)

It's also notable that the copyright to the 'MJ and Bubbles' sculpture image belongs to Jeff Koons....  I'm sure MJ didn't use it on his stationery!

A drawing of a male three-quarter profile on offer from an Etsy seller apparently based in Germany.

Michael Jackson Genuine Signed & Inscribed Drawing/Sketch, approx 6 by 7 1/2" - Initials "MJ" Autograph

MICHAEL J. JACKSON genuinely hand-drawn, inscribed and signed (w/ initials "MJ") beautiful self-portrait drawing/sketch, measuring approx 6 by 7.6 inches (ca. 15,1 x 19,4 centimeters). Drawn and written with dark (blue/grey?) coloured pen (ballpoint?) on old, yellowed paper sheet..

As you can see in the images this piece of paper shows some heavy signs of age/usage. The borders and edges show some wear, there is a damage at lower border. Sketch and written note are still powerful, not smudged or faded in any way.

There is no documentation for this item.

A note which appears to be by a well-known creator of fake MJ drawings (and fake-signed pillows, handkerchieves etc.).

This is currently being offered on Etsy at just over £411, by a seller based in Portugal.

Michael Jackson Signed Authentic Drawing.

On white paper around a4.

Original (not a copy) Michael Jackson Signed Drawing.

With pencil drawing of Peter Pan fighting with Captain hook.

Not a drawing this time, but (what appears to be) a very good copy of handwritten lyrics previously sold by Juliens in 2010. Ironically, the lyrics are 'Anything for money'.....

This item is being sold on ebay uk for £1200 start and £1700 'buy it now'.

The details mention that after being sold by Juliens, the lyrics later appeared on a TV 'sale' program called 'Four Rooms. I don't recall this item there, and it is not listed in the Wiki summary of the series in 2013, which does mention 'hats worn by MJ'.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Four_Rooms_episodes    An episode of this programme (in a later series) featured a fake handwritten pillowcase, supposedly written by MJ, but actually by a known forger of MJ drawings and signed items featured earlier in this thread.   It's not possible to tell from these handwritten lyrics who the forger might be, but the paper certainly doesn't match the Juliens sale item
