Hello all. I am a new collector that has no experience when it comes to event signings and the dos and donts on the topic of how in person signings work. I am attending my first one soon to build a small personal collection and looking for advice on where to start. My big question comes down to what are a few brands or types markers that you would recommend in general? If any one has insight on this follow up topic, a more specific question on the topic is what pens/markers/ink has the best results on a metal surface? The event I am heading to I will attempt to have a Star Wars light saber hilt signed and any insight on what is best for longevity and legibility on the metal surface is truly and deeply appreciated by this novice. Thanks for the read and time.

For books, on the rare occasions I go in person to get them signed, a good ballpoint pen (I even bring my Cross pen sometimes and hand it to the author to use).

For your marker query, I'd suggest a permanent silver/gold marker (Sharpie/etc.)

Thank you for the advice and time!

I'd recommend checking out this Facebook group if you haven't. It's a SWAU (Star Wars Autograph Universe), and both Star Wars signings and pen selection/placement (which there's an entire thread dedicated to) are discussed pretty extensively. You'll get feedback both from fellow fans and even the people who organize/conduct the signings.
