Elvis autograph, I would like to hear your thoughts.

Hi there!

My name is Davy from the Netherlands, and I am a new member here. :P Nice to meet you all!

So... Let me get straight to the point... I bought an expensive Elvis autograph (for my mother) from a popular 50's merch store in the Netherlands. Normally, I am wary about autographs, but since I was afraid someone would get this Elvis autograph before me, I had to purchase it. While I love Elvis a lot as well, this would be my mother's most cherished possession (if it were real).

According to the owner of that store, he purchased the autograph from a very respected collector who also owned(?) an Elvis museum in Germany...That's at least what my mom told me; I will ask her again tomorrow (just to be sure). He also told my mother that they do business from time to time.

It appears that his museum held a lot more valuable items from Elvis (which weren't for sale) like guitars, wedding plates and forks, etc. He told her the museum is now closed (due to Covid?), but they will reopen in 2024.

My understanding is that he believes the autograph is genuine (because he 100% trusts the person who sold it to him), and that if we had any doubts and didn't feel comfortable about it, we could return it immediately and get our money back. This was certainly nice to hear.

However, I believe that the seller is 100% genuine in that he believes it's real, and he has also told my mother that he would never buy or sell such an item if it were a fake autograph, because it could severely ruin his reputation, and the reputation of his store.

Anyway, I was just wondering what you guys thought about it. I have nothing but good things to say about the store where I bought it from, but I also know there are many (real and fake) Elvis autographs out there.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could provide specific information about why you believe the autograph is real or fake if you examine it (in which case, thank you for your time and help).

Ps There is a signature on both sides of the card, and there is a "59" date on the front. It also looks like the front of the card is a bit glossy (I have yet to receive the item), so it seems that the pen did not really work properly. Both sides are written with a black ballpoint pen it seems.

Also, what a cool community this is. I know we'd all prefer to own real autographs from the people we adore, but determining whether something is fake or real together is also fun.

But buying something in a hurry is almost always bad advice. Mostly.
Patience is very important.

In my humble opinion both are not real.
I’m sure about the first, and pretty sure about the second one.

But let‘s see what others say.

Also thanks for your advice. Even though I knew it wasn't the best decision to buy this autograph on impulse, I had a really good feeling about it haha. But yeah, I am no expert. All I did was some "basic" research on what to look out for in an Elvis autograph.

I am sorry to hear that you think it's not the real deal, could you please tell me why you think it's not real, so I can learn more about this particular autograph? :) I find this a fascinating topic.

Also, this autograph was apparently approved for auction at Catawiki.com, but wasn't sold. Does that mean anything?

Yeah Davy, to buy something on impulse is very risky.

Ok, here is MY opinion why:

The first autograph doesn't really fit at all. Doesn't have the right flow either.
Like to call it that way.
The second autograph looks a bit better at first glance, but something is wrong here too.

What bothers me the most after the 'P' is the 'res'. That's the first thing I notice.

I hope you didn't pay too much.

But Davy again. That only reflects MY humble opinion.

I appreciate your opinion, it's valuable to me, as I still have the opportunity to return this autograph (haha). I wouldn't feel comfortable giving this to my Elvis-obsessed mother if I had too many doubts...

This autograph did cost me quite a bit, so I would love to hear what Elvis and autograph enthusiasts think about it (like yourself).

I am reading your introduction Davy and as I move along I am hoping - hoping and hoping some more that what I am going to see will fulfil your mothers wishes.
