Christopher Lloyd - BTTF Comic - Need Opinion on Signature Stroke

Hello everyone,

I recently purchased this Back to the Future comic on eBay UK for a very low price. It does not have a COA. The seller stated it was signed in-person but is refusing to provide any details about the specific event or year.

I am strongly considering returning it because the stroke structure looks incorrect to me. Specifically, if you look at my close-up photo, the top line of the "t" passes under the "h". From my understanding of his authentic signatures, the "t" is almost always crossed last.

The seller told me that because of his age, his signature is declining and he sometimes "does the 't' when he wants".

I know his signature has gotten much sloppier in recent years, but does this specific structural flaw (t crossed under h) look like a natural variation of an aging signer, or is this a clear forgery?

I have an open return request on eBay and would greatly appreciate your expert opinions before I send it back. Thank you!

I checked several exemplars. I'm confident that it is not real.

Hi, Thank you so much for taking the time to check the exemplars and for sharing your expertise. I really appreciate it, and it definitely confirms my suspicions! Just as a quick update, I pushed the eBay seller for details and he finally replied with this excuse: "It was 2017 at the london film comic con with a monster que." What are your thoughts on this? Could a highly rushed setting at LFCC 2017 ever justify that kind of incorrect stroke structure (the 't' under the 'h'), or does it just sound like a classic forger's excuse to you? Also, I noticed that this exact same seller has just relisted another signed BTTF comic. I have attached the photo of this second comic below. I would love to know if you spot the same red flags and forgery traits on this one as well! Thanks again for all your help!

The new one's better but still not right. Glad you found out about yours during the refund period.

That makes total sense! It looks like the seller is just trying to improve his forgeries. I am incredibly relieved that I caught this within the eBay buyer protection window. Thank you so much for confirming my suspicions on both items and for saving me from keeping a fake in my collection.
Your expertise is greatly appreciated!

did find his ebay site and can't find to much that concerns me but a other buyer from his feedback did get his money back for a christopher lloyd ''.

Ah, actually, that "other buyer" is me! 😄

I literally just left that negative feedback right after eBay closed the case in my favor and forced the refund. So yes, that Christopher Lloyd feedback you saw is exactly about the comic I posted in this thread! That's probably why you couldn't find much else that concerns you on his page: he already hid all of his other items right after I won the case.

thought so but wasn't sure but curious who or which company did find that lloyd wasn't good? just saying you have doubts isn't enough i should think?

You make a very good point! Normally, just having doubts wouldn't be enough and eBay would ask for a formal authentication letter.

However, I didn't actually need one to win the case. I opened a return request stating the item wasn't as described. Since I am an international buyer, the seller was required by eBay to manually provide a return shipping label. He just ignored my request and never sent it. Because he failed to provide the label within the timeframe, eBay stepped in, closed the case in my favor, and forced the refund automatically.

i have a very large bttf collection and many from lloyd and when this is a forgery than the one who signed this can make a lot of money with it?. is there a way i can look to his other items? love to examine these''.

Thanks for the input! Yeah, it’s a pretty convincing forgery at first glance, which makes it even more dangerous for unsuspecting buyers. Unfortunately, you can't check his other items right now. Immediately after eBay stepped in and forced my full refund, his entire store went completely empty. I'm not sure if he hid all his listings to lay low, or if eBay temporarily restricted his account. His eBay username is "staypuftsales" if you want to keep an eye on him in case his profile pops back up. I would have loved to hear your expert opinion on his other pieces!
