Hi everyone,

So I purchased a double conservation mat with foam-core backing.  I've been researching on how to attach the autographed photo to the matting itself but I'm confused as to what should be used to "hinge" the photo, and how to attach it to the backing.  I've seen archival tape used, as seen on this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w17F047llgI . I'm also concerned that the tape, if directly applied to the photograph, would damage the photo if removed.  If there is anyone who is experienced in framing/matting autographed pictures I would greatly appreciate any advice on this manner.

Regards,

Mike.

You did these yourself WW?!  They look fantastic!  Like done by a professional framer.

WW, you have some nice framed items. The 8 different 3x5 you made to look like a checkered flag was really clever!

Everyone,

Can you please tell me if you know where I can buy pre-cut mat for a photo and a 3x5 card combo, like the photo below?

The Phil Mickelson piece looks custom made. I like the green piping, it is subtle yet accentuates the photograph. I do not believe you are going to find something like this pre-made, and this is one of the reasons why I started matting & framing myself.

The checkered flag piece I did was fairly time consuming. Each of the black blocks is made from mat board, and overall the piece has a 3-dimensional effect. I have 1 for Indy, 1 for Daytona, and 1 for the Grand Prix of Monaco.

I would take a mat without the piping, if I can get a photo and 3x5 card together on a pre-cut mat. I would like to learn, but I don't know how to get started.

Is Senna one of the autographs on the Grand Prix of Monaco piece?

nice work.

I just obtained a Jeff Buckley autograph.  It's about 4" x 3 1/4" on a piece of paper.  How do you think these would do?  4"x6" Clear Archival Sleeves

I wanted to put it in one of these and then mount it on a 8x10 collage inside a frame.  Would that be safe?

MIke, I just saw this posting.  You would bookhinge the mats together with linen tape.  If the autograph should ever be dislodged, it can fall into the tape.  Plus, if, for some reason, you need to access the autograph, bookhinging allows easy opening of the mats.

double sided tape within the attached mats can make it harder to access the framed item, thus causing creasing/damage to the mats.
