Help with Authenticating a Mikey Mantle Autograph Baseball

I'm new here and am currently looking to purchase a baseball signed by Mikey Mantle. The problem is, I don't know if it is fake. No letter or certificate of authenticity. They guy says he inherited it from his Grandfather. Can you help me out?

yeah, before the dog got a hold of it. I think cleaning it up is further deceiving the customer, unless it is disclosed at the time of listing. basically you have a Mickey Mantle signed item. I would keep it and not even think about selling it.

yeah thats what I meant when I said clean it up, was for keeping it purposes. if its ever sold then it deffinately needs mentioning that it has been doctored, even now.

You all were a big help. I just started collecting and purchasing that ball was my first step. I will probably use this site alot until I get the hang of things myself. I've learned a ton and I owe it to you guys! Thanks again!

Oh and Fido didn't get a hold of it, but it does look like someone intentionally defaced it.
