Kurt and Krist really look like they were signed by the same person.
Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with SLC. Yeah, unless there's some great photo evidence of Kurt signing that exact item, the photo "proof" maye be of very little help. Sometimes random photos like that are used to aid in the sale of forgeries, when the reality is that they have nothing to do with the signed item in question.
Hi Lee,
Nirvana, as im sure you know, is one of the most forged bands out their. Dont be fooled by COAs and proof photos. Most forgers out their will include "proof pics" when trying to peddle Cobain forgeries. B/c they think it will back up their story. But the pics are always the same, Kurt signing graphs but you can never tell what hes signing, and if you can, its def not the item in question. Or if it appears to be the item in question, many times you can clearly tell it has been photoshopped. These are definetly forgeries in my opinion. If you purchased it, please try and get a refund.
Hi Lee,
ill take a look at them later this evening, as ive got to get back to work. Im certainly no expert on them, but have been studying Nirvana sigs for a little while now, and can normally spot the obviously bad ones. They really are such a tough band!! The problem was that their signatures were so simple. It really makes for a hayday for forgers. Another thing is that Kurt had so many variations of his signature, and his autographs typically werent consistent. This makes for a horror story when trying to make an accurate authentication. Thats the main reason that roger Epperson wont authenticate them except under rare circumstances.
Unfortunately, i honestly dont know of any place to get a solid set. Even the big auction houses arent safe, as ive seen forgeries come from RR auction (before Roger), and the other biggies (Heritage, etc). But realistically they are probably your best bet. I would check them often and if you find a piece their, i would then run it by members here and maybe even ask Roger if he can look at it. Provenance is the key really. But authentic sigs do pop up on ebay as well. But be prepared to pay alot for an authentic set.
If i were in your shoes, i would do 2 things. One is to check the major respected auctions houses regularly. And also list any items you are curious about here on this site for opinions. One member in particular on this site who knows Nirvana well is JSeah.
Good luck though, im sure you will eventually find what your looking for
Carl
I agree Rich. These Nirvana sigs are forgeries for sure.
