Has anyone else noticed that RR Auction has become virtually infamous for auctioning fake Clash and Pretenders items in part due to Roger Epperson's authentication (or rather lack thereof) of such?

There's one of each up for auction right now.

I've collected both bands since the early 80s and have quite a few authentic items in my collection acquired personally so I'm not just slinging mud here.

I'm also fairly sure that an old swiss philography forum (Markus Brandes'?) was shut down due to me bringing-up this very subject and essentially forcing them to admit that one Clash signed item was in fact fake after receiving bids upwards of five hundred dollars. Then a fake Pretenders item was posted, I called BS on it on these same forums, shortly after that the forum admin announced that it would be shut down. Interesting coincidence.

Roder Epperson authenticates fake Clash and Pretenders items, that's really all there is to it I'm afraid.

I'm sure this will either be removed or vehemently shot down but nevertheless I feel sorry for people who are bidding on and buying this garbage on RR.

Thanks.

Why don't you use your real name then?

Why can't we focus on and attend to the topic at hand and the "inconsistencies" instead of what my real name is?  What difference would that make regarding this issue?  None, you wouldn't know me from Adam if I used my real name and could make-up anything to satisfy your curiosity in the first place.  There's more than a few here that don't use their real names evidently, in this day and age it's almost ignorant to use one's real name in certain situations.  So what?  If my lack of use of my real name is grounds to discount the issue I've presented and to try and discredit me then so be it.   That is telling and diversionary in itself.  I am secure in my integrity, experience and "knowledge".   That's who I am and I think that suffices quite well.

You came here with two direct targets. Your no average newbie. You've obviously got beef other than just seeing a questionable signature or two. Looks like a regular retaliation post for something.

So, do you have any experience with these bands?

I am familiar with Pretenders but no clue on the Clash.

Yet no comment?

I'm not targeting anyone necessarily, have no "beef", I'm no average n00b when it comes to Clash and Pretenders signatures and there have been more than one or two "questionable" signatures over time.

I don't like fakes and frankly I'm sick of seeing crap being passed-off as authentic Clash and Pretenders items.  I am a long-time customer of RRs and am disappointed that the sight of this stuff is becoming almost commonplace there.

I'm not retaliating against anyone or anything but don't let me distract you from your theories.

What comment would you like? I'm no Clash expert. Not even a Clash fan. I'm familiar with Pretenders but wouldn't give my opinion to anyone to convince them to buy one. I haven't seen enough examples of her nor do I think I'm a pro with her. I have 3 Hynde signatures. One I have gotten myself and two I got from a friend I trust. All three have the  "r" in her name that this one is lacking. If your asking me if I like this one posted here, I would have say no and I sure wouldn't buy it.

Ok, what am I missing.  I don't know how these people normally sign - but on the 2-3 year old Chrissie, I see an r hump after her h hump????

Yes, that's right.  That's one of mine posted at the request of Steve.  If you don't like Chrissie using an "r" in her name, I know where you can get an authentic Chissie Hynde though.  ;)

I've gotten signatures from both. The Clash are one of my all-time favorite bands. The Pretenders -- they were okay. I got them a few times, just because I could (just Chrissie and drummer Martin).

I will say this...RR is WAAAAAAY overpriced. I bid on a Martin Scorsese signed picture to give somebody as a gift. Nobody else bid, so the minimum bid of $100 got it. Well, it ended up being $158 with postage, 20% buyers premium and all that stuff. That's...just outrageous.

That being said...R. Epperson is a class act, and we all love him here. He's answered any questions anybody posses, and spends much of his own time helping others authenticate their pieces (without pay for that)

Thanks for the kind words Josh.  I do my very best at all times.

What Dee Ranger doesn't know about the Pretenders is when their debut LP came out; they signed about 300 copies of the album and mailed them to radio stations all over.  Here are two more signed LP's identical to the one in RR Auction that Dee has said was fake.  These are all known to be authentic and match up perfectly.  Note the way Chrissie signed her name and even the pen color!

I hope this clears up this subject.
