Hello. I recently purchased a forged guitar, and hope to avoid making the same mistake twice. There is a recent guitar on Ebay, signed by the 3 living members. This guitar looks more authentic than many of the others I see.

This has the 'Piece of the Past" certificate, which I google so many negative reviews. This auction also has a "Global Authentics" certificate, which I also get good and bad reviews on.

Forgive me if this is not the correct forum or place to post this. I am brand new to this forum. I just hope to not get taken twice in a row buying another 'led zeppelin" signed guitar. this is costly! :)

Hi Greg,

Sorry to say that this is not authentic in my opinion. The Page & Plant are really bad, and the Jones is close but still not authentic. I would stay far, far away. Sorry!

Hello, I also dont like the plant auto or the so called provenance ( the certifications-proof) . If you do go to buy one contact roger epperson pay 15 bucks for an expert opinion. Wait a while and save lots of money up because a "good" one with good provenance is gonna cost you. Im sorry I didnt jump on an eagles signed guitar through their website, now Im waiting for one to pop up ,Ive got 3 grand ready if somebody has one! You can get a nice signed photo (litho? not sure) on pages website for about 1,500

If you had to guess how much a Zep guitar would/should go for, what would be your estimate? I notice that the forgers are marking the prices of their guitars way up to make them look legitimate. That complicates the whole process. lol

Thanks for the answers. I actually paid the $15 for an Epperson opinion on this one. I'll share the opinion on these signatures right here.

I did recently buy a Larry Ratner picture of Jimmy Page signed by Page . I have no doubt that the signature on the pic is real, as he has a believable story behind the signature, and he is a notable photographer that knows the management of the band. The autograph on the picture is what made me realize that the guitar hanging next to it is a fake!

Thanks again.

Hi Greg,

I agree with the others, this item is fake, and i have actually seen it before posted somewhere. Definetly a bad apple in my opinion. Zepp sigs are forged so often its not even funny.

If i were you, i would post pictures of your Page picture here and ask for opinions on it. It very well may be authentic, but i have to warn you about putting faith in certain people. I have seen many examples where a former manager, friend, band member, etc is selling celebrity autographs to whom they have a deep connection, and those very same autographs be total forgeries. I have heard the best stories come from former managers, photographers, friends of the band, etc, and time and time again, the autographs prove the point. Unfortunately, some people just dont care about others, and will use their connections to make money.

A great example is the recent Michael Bush MJ forgeries sold at Julians auctions. Most people never even thought to question the autographs, and the proof in that is that every MJ item was sold. So many people out their now have fake MJ sigs, signed by Michael BUsh, Michael Bush being Michael Jacksons costume designer, who was around him all the time. He designed alot of MJs iconic wardrobe, and most wouldnt believe they were fake b/c of who he was and his background. Yet they were actually horrible fakes.

I certainly hope your item is real, and of course have no reason to believe its not real, but you might want to post a picture of it here and ask for opinions. The only reason i am saying this is b/c i have seen so many forgeries coming from people who were supposedly very close to the artist.

Take care,

Carl

Yes, I think I saw the same guitar right here on this website. But I couldnt seem to find it again once I needed to compare them. It is lost on this site. lol

Ok, Here is the autograph on my picture.

Hi Greg,

Thanks for posting the Jimmy autograph. I am not that good on judging Page autographs of this style, but to me it doesnt appear to be an obvious forgery, like most. I have one very similar. The J is not the norm, but he could have been bumped while signing, etc. So i certainly wouldnt cross it out b/c of that. I think it has a definite shot at being good.

And if real, thats a dandy bold signature.

Take Care,

Carl

Epperson also agrees. The autographa appear fake. Thank you everyone for your opinion. So you also get PSA/DNA ceritified autographes checked as well? I guess they are (along with Epperson), the only authenticators consitant?

I dont just take any authenticaters word as "gospel". The only  thing Ive ever gotten that I didnt get at some type of signing or "official" edition was a psa in person witnessed   al pacino. Keep an eye out for exact proof items on ebay  but beware of photo tricks and just generic photos of stars signing. There are just so many crooks out there and big profits on just signing names. Even law enforcement  doesnt seem to do much. Save that money and wait for something nice,it will come along. Stay away from vegas, those fancy autograph stores seem to have a ton of band signed guitars but most are bad. How do they get away with it?  Zep are the gods of rock. Good luck!
