I have a blog (http://outlawautographs.blogspot.ca/) that doesn't get updated as often as it should but I was thinking about doing postings on here with updated signings. We're heading to LA (Paleyfest) and SXSW in two weeks for some graphing mayhem and maybe I'll start then.
Sundance was awesome because we got to bond with the other ip sellers from the US and UK and it was cool to put faces to authentic dealers.
Sundance list that I compiled when I got back that I'm certain I missed a bunch of names:
Boyd Holbrook, Amanda Seyfried, Dakota Fanning, Naomi Watts, Paris Hilton, Alice Englert, Ray McKinnon, Ellen Page, Alexander Skarsgard, Evan Rachel Wood, Matt Groening, Jane Lynch, Tamsin Egerton, Allen Leech, Michael C Hall, Steve Carrell, Brit Marling, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Emilie Hirsch, Rooney Mara, Dermot Mulroney, Leslie Bibb, Sam Rockwell, James Franco, Daniel Radcliffe, Gael Garcia Bernal, Mammie Gummer, Shailene Woodley, Amy Poehler, Erin Moriarty, Tony Danza, James Callis, Ben Foster, Kyra Scodelario, Dane DeHaan, Miles Teller, Alfred Molina, June Rapheal Diane, Emily Browing, Xavier Samuel, Michael B Jordan, Shiloh Fernandez, Troian Belasario, Keri Russell, Adam Scott, Michael Rosenbaum
Very cool list of names. If you're heading to Paleyfest, I'm pretty sure there was a forum member looking for a few American Horror Story graphs.
I might have to change my opinion on EZgraphs after seeing him sell this.
This is supposed to be the Edge from U2. EVERY time I've ever seen an Edge in this style (the stupid E with a circle around it), it's a forgery - usually from an especially dumb forger.
I'd also like to know what "local concert" they played near Tinley Park.
I would be inclined to agreed with you in general, but after seeing that Edge autograph, I would have to question how tight a ship he runs.
I am curious to why you think the Edge is forgery. Only reason I ask cause it seems the E is almost identical to this one that is authenticated. What strikes me as odd as why a person who sells all good autographs but only 1 of theres is forgery . I would think they would do a full version forgery . Not a E and a circle. Do you have any examples of others of this same style supposed forgery . I also collect in person and how these guys change one signature to the next. Especially on a item like a pick guard. I think Edge just felt like signing a half butt autograph on this and it is authentic. It is even smeared as well. I saw some he signed in new York for the play they did and they where pretty bad.
The E's look pretty Identical , especially in spacing between the lines.
But I have never seen this style from any verified source. I have never seen him circle his signature at all. I have asked other fans or collectors whether they have and have not gotten a positive response thus far.
I'll agree the E looks good - but it's one letter, and is it that hard to mimic?
I'd like to see either some evidence that 1) Edge signed this pick guard or 2) Edge has EVER signed this way before I really entertain any thoughts that it is authentic.
This purchase had to have been based solely on the buyer being completely sold on this seller. Because, even if it is authentic, it's probably the worst Edge signature I've ever seen and is highly uncharacteristic.
If they where gonna nail the E that perfect . I would think they would go the whole way and do the whole graph.
I am pretty certain Edge was ticked someone asked him on a pickguard and rather than turn the person down , he probably gave him a crappy autograph.
Here is a little story , I started collecting baseball autographs . Jason Giambi turned into a huge star and everyone was chasing him. He use to be a great signer and had a simple graph . When he won mvp , he still signed but on any premium items he would give a way different autograph . He would also give you a dirty stare and a huff and a puff when he signed . He did this for like two years. He never stopped signing . He just signed different when he fealt you where a dealer. We started calling them fake J's autographs in the in person community. As he would sign a way different J . Here is an example of a regular one and the fake J one.
Above the is the fake J .
Below is the Normal J .
I feel exactly the opposite - more forgers would be inclined to try to get away with a "rushed" example. I would think this would be easier to pull off - fewer letters, fewer opportunities for mistakes.
If Edge hates signing guitars, that might be an explanation for an "E - circle" autograph. Maybe he knew it would be harder to sell.
Still, I'm stuck in the same place I was before - it doesn't look right and I really don't know what to do with it. I'm a huge U2 fan with a keen interest in their autographs, and I honestly wouldn't want that for free.
I wouldn't either. I get your point for the rush exampled. But that E is pretty on point in a lot of areas. I still think he sold it for to cheap . Even if its only a E and Circle .
I don't see where they write about getting the autograph near Tinley park . People travel all over the world for autographs. I see those St Louis guys who run the Norsbob account a lot in los angeles. I also fly to new York three times a year just to get autographs. We have guys that come from Phoenix Az almost every week to get Hollywood autographs. EZ graphs are legit guys .
He said he got it "after a local concert." I'm admittedly being a bit of a smartass, since that would mean Chicago I guess. But why such a vague listing? Can't say you got it in Chicago? Can't say when? What venue? Don't know? Don't remember? Don't care? Just looks bad when you put zero effort into your auction (or record keeping, whichever the excuse is).
Just a side note - from what I've seen, Edge is more likely to sign pre-show than post show. I've been advised by a couple fans and collectors that Edge generally refuses to sign guitars (including pick guards) these days.
The whole listing from the item to the description is just weird. It doesn't speak well for that business.
